Disable Basic authentication is a terrible news for us. We setup the email account (public email account) which is used for commnunicating with clients by pop3 on some staff's Outlook, they can receive/read email on their local compuuter and donot affect each other.
If pop3 (basic authentication) is disabled, it will change our workflow, I had tests on Shared Mailbox and Distribution Mmail Group, they are not totally meet our demand.
1. Shared-mailbox: if someone read an email which was received just now on his Outlook, this email's status will be read on others's Outlook, it might cause someone miss emails.
2. Distribution email group: spam email will be forwarded to members in the email group as well, users have to spend some time to select useful email from their own spam folder (currently, our IT guy check useful email on spam folder of public email account everyday). And, if the member has several Distribution email groups, the member own email account storage will be full soon (Office 365 email account capacity is 100GB at maximum), if we have a lot of emails everyday, we have to keep backuping email to avail email box is full. What is more, it is complicated to back old email on OWA (it might be onyl IT guy can do this)
I strongly suggest that Off365 enable basic authentication for some users. Users can choose enable or disalbe basic authentication by themselves.
