Microsoft School Data Sync (SDS) can now help school districts to protect access to student personal data!  This feature was inspired by the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), but because it has value to customers in any every region, we have made it available to all SDS customers, worldwide.

With SDS, school districts can import their list of students from their Student/Management Information System and automatically mark them as minors so that Microsoft and third-party applications can identify them as such.  Districts can even use SDS to configure Azure Active Directory to prevent students from using third-party applications.  Click here to learn more.

In the European Union, GDPR Article 8 requires data controllers, like school districts, to obtain verifiable parental consent for minors who access products and services that process personal data.  As a data processor for Office 365 for Education, Microsoft has provided this solution to help them simplify compliance with Article 8 by using SDS to help manage access to Office 365 for Education by students with consent.

Microsoft offers free remote consulting to help school districts deploy SDS.  Sign up at https://aka.ms/sdssignup.
