Oops...I forgot to leave an empty SQL table partition, how can I split it with minimal IO impact?
Good Day, depending on your circumstance you might be fine following the 1st script BUT using the same file
so not "ALTER PARTITION scheme [Orders__Scheme] NEXT USED [FG5]"
which forces SQL to move the rows as they are now on a different physical file, but
A"LTER PARTITION scheme [Orders__Scheme] NEXT USED [FG4]"
which now has no moves and then continue on creating new files for the ongoing filegroups
