The necessity for an exception process to the new MFA requirement, as voiced by many users, is a critical concern. The fact that Microsoft employees, such as MatthewKing, are resorting to a public forum to seek guidance on this matter underscores the urgency for clear and accessible internal guidelines. It's not a reflection on Matthew's efforts, who is commendably assisting customers. but rather an indication that the communication of such a significant change requires improvement.
For a change of this magnitude, it's imperative that Microsoft provides comprehensive documentation on handling exceptions. Without that, this change will cause massive disruption to many organizations who have chosen to use a third party MFA solution. Microsoft either needs to fully implement the external authentication methods feature with the ability to set EAM as the system preferred MFA, or we need a completely fleshed out exception process.
