BrandonWilson - this might be an old article, but it is still pertinent today with many organisations reliant on Active Directory even if they are moving to the cloud and supporting hybrid environments.

Decommissioning a DC by isolating it into a dedicated AD Site means you can see what horrible apps have likely hardcoded the IP address without you as an AD Admin even knowing.
