So this is fine if you want to command each machine individually... but that's hard. For those who want to make this fully "ride on rails" please investigate: https://www.policypak.com/components/file-associations-manager/ . It hooks directly into GPO and MDM and makes this whole process a non-issue. Of course its not free.. but no scripting required and JUST WORKS.
