ms-ajf8729  actually I just checked that, and I did not.  I had datacenter installed, and used standard in my test.  I am trying it again.

quick question  - one of the first things setup asks if is I should 'download updates, drivers and optional features' .. is that a good idea, bad idea or neutral?
