We’re pleased to announce that the Azure Virtual Desktop metadata database is now available in the Korea Central region. This release is part of our ongoing global expansion, following our rollout earlier this year in Southeast Asia. By extending regional availability, we continue to enhance Azure Virtual Desktop’s performance, support data residency, and meet compliance requirements across more markets.
The metadata database is a critical service component that stores configuration and operational data such as host pool settings, user assignments, and session host details. With this expansion, the metadata service infrastructure is now closer to more users, helping reduce latency and improve responsiveness.
Benefits of Korea Central Availability
With the addition of Korea Central, customers will now benefit from:
- Improved performance: Reduced latency for service operations by keeping metadata closer to your workloads.
- Enhanced compliance: Support for data residency and regulatory requirements in Korea.
- Enriched user experience: Faster connection times and more responsive session management.
When deploying Azure Virtual Desktop, you now have the option to configure your environment to utilize the Korea Central metadata database. This configuration helps ensure that your service metadata remains within the region, thereby supporting your compliance and performance objectives.
The addition of the Korea Central metadata database is part of our broader commitment to bring Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 closer to our customers around the world. As we continue to expand regional availability, we’re focused on helping organizations build secure, resilient, and high-performing digital workplaces, wherever they are. We encourage you to take advantage of this regional expansion to optimize your Azure Virtual Desktop deployments.
