we have noticed that with the Azure Arc Monitor mode the Extensions Allow List contains only the Default values and adding values to this list is impossible. The new value must be added in full mode, but when switching back to the monitor mode, the default values will be set and the previously added value is removed.
We noticed this with SQL Extension, which is NOT allowed when using the monitor mode.
For info we used the command:
& 'C:\Program Files\AzureConnectedMachineAgent\azcmagent.exe' config set extensions.allowlist "Microsoft.AzureData/WindowsAgent.SqlServer" --add
Is the only solution to use Full mode but with allowed extensions defined as Monitor mode default + the SQL extension?
It seems that SQL Extension has the requirement that Azure Arc is in Full mode, described here in the prerequisites: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/sql-server/azure-arc/prerequisites?view=sql-server-ver16&tabs=azure#before-you-deploy
We managed to handle this by checking if the server has SQL installed during onboarding and setting it to Full Mode with Extensions allow list of Monitor mode AND SQL Extension.
