What’s New in Windows Group Policy Preferences Debug Logging
Hi. Jeremy Moskowitz here, former 18x GPO MVP and former 2x Intune MVP. So, okay.. is there actual new architecture here, or is this simply taking the domain-specific ADMX file and cramming in the Local Policy shipping vehicle for Windows 11 24H2, 25H2, later operating systems? So if I wanted to do this exact same thing earlier, I THINK I basically could have, but since I just didn't have the ADMX locally, it wasn't an option. Am I following what this change means, or is there something actually more to this than I am not seeing? Thanks.
Hi Jeremy — you’re mostly tracking it correctly.
There isn’t a fundamentally new policy processing architecture here.
The key change is that the Preferences Debug Logging ADMX‑backed setting, which previously wasn’t exposed in Local Group Policy, is now available in newer Windows 11 builds.
