Government agencies don't just need AI— they need AI that fits their mission, works in the apps their teams use, and supports their security and compliance requirements. This month's update focuses on exactly that: bringing the latest AI reasoning to every government cloud, putting Copilot natively into the productivity tools government workers use most.
Frontier Intelligence, Cleared for GCC, GCC High and DoD clouds
Users in government clouds deserve AI that keeps pace with their most complex, high-stakes work. Until recently, these users operated on prior-generation models while their commercial counterparts accessed frontier-class reasoning. That gap is closing this month.
OpenAI's GPT-5.6 (Now available in GCC, GCC-H, and DoD) brings the same state-of-the-art language model available to commercial Microsoft 365 Copilot users to all three U.S. Government cloud environments. GPT-5.6 delivers measurably stronger reasoning, more accurate responses on complex queries, and improved performance on long-document analysis—giving government workers the AI capability to match the demands of their missions.
Simplified Copilot app design (Now available in GCC and GCC-H; coming soon to DoD) delivers a more streamlined, chat-centered experience. These updates simplify the chat and response layout, consolidate work and web toggles into a single “Work IQ” toggle, and improve app navigation —helping users stay focused, maintain context, and move work forward efficiently.
Copilot Everywhere You Work
Government employees use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for a wide range of daily tasks. Yet AI assistance within those tools has lagged in government clouds. New capabilities released this month completed the rollout of AI-powered editing across the core Office suite.
Edit with Copilot in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Now available in GCC, GCC-H, and DoD) brings a unified AI co-creation experience to the full Microsoft Office productivity suite across all U.S. Government clouds. In Word, Copilot works as a co-creator directly inside your document—helping you create, refine, and transform content at the paragraph level. In PowerPoint, Copilot generates and refines slides through natural language, applies layouts, polishes design, and helps you build well-structured presentations while preserving your formatting and branding. In Excel, Copilot works side by side with you to build and edit workbooks—using tables, charts, PivotTables, and formulas to support budgets, financial models, and data analysis.

Scheduling with Copilot (Now available in GCC; rolling out to DoD; coming soon to GCC-H) lets users book meetings directly from a Copilot chat conversation. Simply ask Copilot to schedule a meeting with colleagues, and it will find available times, book rooms, draft agendas, and send invites—all within the chat experience. Government employees managing dense calendars, cross-team coordination, or recurring planning cycles can offload meeting logistics without switching tools.
Copilot in Forms (Now available in GCC, GCC-H, and DoD) makes it faster to design effective surveys, assessments, quizzes, and polls directly inside Microsoft Forms. Copilot can generate an entire form from a prompt, suggest questions based on a topic, and help refine the structure and clarity of existing forms. For agencies that collect feedback, track compliance, run performance assessments, or gather data across large teams, this means less time building instruments and more time acting on the results.
Looking Ahead
Microsoft remains committed to delivering secure, compliant AI innovation to U.S. Government customers— expanding selected Copilot capabilities to GCC, GCC-H, and DoD as they become available for each environment. We'll continue to share updates as new capabilities reach government clouds.
