Re: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Totally agree. But i am afraid it seems that microsoft dont read this blog and it is a totally waste to say it here. I am really frustrated about microsoft have posted this blog and have people respond but then microsoft dont care to read it and do any of the improvements recommended by us. It is easy to understand it takes 20 year to improve something at microsoft.4.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
This post has got 213 000 views. I guess microsoft dont read it. All answers made here are posted by people not working on this project so posting here is pointless if you someone wants to report bugs and suggestions and get answers from Microsoft.4.7KViews0likes1CommentRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Make sure to toggle the discard setting as well as add the site to the exception list. I use instant sleep and after making this two settings your page will notify you forever or until you close the tab, exit edge or restart computer. See instructions at: https://discourse.nodered.org/t/how-to-make-the-dashboard-run-at-all-time-in-chrome-and-edge-beta/408703.8KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
HotCakeX Yes it happens even when disabling the sleeping tabs feature from the flags. The tabs i depend so much on is freezing at least once every hour, many times after so little as the time i use to write an email in outlook. If you want to reproduce the problem open a lot of tabs and in one of them run at script playing a sound once every 15 minutes. Go to another tab or program and you will discover that the sound will not play anymore after you have left the tab for a while. The solution until now was making sure the tab is in focus at all time, but now after i discovered the toggle to disable Automatic discarding everything works fine even if i leave the tab unfocused for days. The "never put these sites to sleep" must also ensure they never is unloaded by discarding too to make the function reliable. If i tell Edge they should never be put to sleep it is absolutely horrible that edge unload the site anyway by automatic discard! The horrible "feature" that makes chrome unreliable for displaying critical web pages. https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2015/09/tab-discarding4.8KViews1like1CommentRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
HotCakeX see my previous posts if you dont understand. Your answer is absolutely wrong!. I made this picture to explain it to you "with a spoon". There you have the proof!. If you still dont get it then please dont bother to reply to my posts. It is unbelieveable that someone ever came up with the idea of saving resources by killing important tabs the user need to run 24/7 365 days a year! The sleeping tabs is a great improvement with the possibillity to prevent tabs from sleeping and i love to put all my tabs to sleep immediately. But the crazy unloading by urgent discard is the worst nightmare ever in my 25 years of using computers making my computer extremly unreliable! So it need to be fixed urgent at high priority now that i have explained why! Does it help to post anything in this thread? Does the people in charge of Edge development ever read this thread?4.8KViews1like3CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Eleanor_Huynh Please give us option to protect our tabs from discarding in the same way as we now have the option to protect our tabs from sleeping trough the setting "Never put these sites to sleep". I strongly need to list my tabs running on localhost to never be discarded. Please introduce a new setting to "Never DISCARD these sites". It will bring back the browser to be trustworthy for 24/7 monitoring even if we using web browser for alarm monitioring and want to read the news when there is no alarms sounding. Please put this request on the most urgent todo list.4.9KViews1like5CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
HotCakeX sorry, i have no option to edit my posts and my post is by work in progress. You was wrong when you said the sleeping tabs excemption list has always been there, it was not and even after updating to latest build. It is only in edge beta. And work in progress discovered that sleeping tabs was not the problem but discarded tabs that was the problem from the beginning. You never suggested to check if the problem came from auto discarding tabs. It was just luck that i discovered that today after i followed the link seen here to edge://discards. So if you want to help to make edge reliable for running critical apps in background please show me the link to discarded exception list for permanently making my critical tabs to stay awake forever even if in background without having to install extention to do the job. I found the edit button now, but the delete button is there only on my latest post. Better to delete all the posts and mention the solution of discarding tabs problem in just one post.3.2KViews1like0CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
sungtroll Today i was lucky to find an extention to disable the terrible funktion that makes Chrome and edge totally unrialable to display critical running webpages always in the background. Finally. thanks to this thread, i was able to find the fault by the edge://discards/ The only way to solve the problem now is to use an extention to bring the browser back to be reliable for us that need it to be reliable for critical running applications. Https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/disable-automatic-tab-dis/dnhngfnfolbmhgealdpolmhimnoliiok?hl=en Sorry that i blamed the sleeping tabs to be the cause of the problem. The problem seems to be from chrome all the way back to 2015 when they introduced the tab discarding experiment: https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2015/09/tab-discarding The solution did not need any extention, it is just to toggle the Auto discard setting in edge://discards/ Now i know. Please inform the world about this, the people deserves to know about this solution to make edge reliable for critical running applications!3.3KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
yuriasky I strongly agree and i also really like to be able to enter the sleeping tabs without waking them up. I usually have 20-30 tabs open that i use for references to my work and it is really no need to wake them up again and refresh the page to view the information. This will really help save internet cost for mobile broadband users and if internet is down there is still possible to view the page without the information disappears when the browser try to refresh the page but the computer is offline. That happens to me almost every day. Freeze my tabs forever function will really be the biggest progress in internet browsers for a long time instead of bookmarks that need to load the page and the hassle to find the bookmark. So Microsoft please do it immediately! Thank you yuriasky for bringing this great idea up!3.5KViews1like0CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
flumi The settings only appears in edge beta and in both english and norwegian language. In standard edge the setting is missing in both english and norwegian. Here is the setting in edge beta in norwegian language3.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
No, it has not always been there. This is snapshot from today from Edge Versjon 87.0.664.66 (Offisiell build) (64-biters). I had the same problem with Edge beta and ever with chrome. The old Internet explorer worked always but with rendering problems.3.3KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Eleanor_Huynh The sleeping tabs have been driving me crazy the last months. I use a program for power control of electricity in my home to warn me of over-usage that is billed yearly from the electricity company. Every kWh electricity used in one hour adds 100 usd to my bill so i really need my program to work all the time! I had tried everything in the Edge settings to disable sleeping tabs but it never solved the horrible problem. The sleeping tabs have already added 300 usd to my electicity fee! Today i see there is now a possibility to control the sleeping tabs and to add pages to never sleep. I see the example url *.domain.com but my program runs in localhost http://localhost:1880/ui/#!/1?socketid=ELP63alysfIYYMAcAABM#%2F0. So i tried to add it to the exeption list and will see if it now til work reliable if i decide to use another tab for browsing so i dont need to use the computer only for my program but for other browsing at the same time without "killing" my warnings i need so much. My program is made in Node-Red and Node-Red runs locally in my computer. The display is Web user interface in Node-red and Microsoft Edge is the browser displaying the control panel and plays voice warning messages. So Edge must never ever go to sleep when my program is running! Edge even put my important electricity control panel page to sleep when running as Edge app!
