Re: Hyper-V Server 2022
DavidYorkshire without forgetting that the real problem we were pointing out was not the price, but the exhibition space; hyperv server had no unnecessary services, unlike windows servers. Paying a hundred euros for hyperv server for the license is acceptable. Low resource usage, Low penetration surface, No cloud... All that we want... Not to mention that there were no dedicated devs, since we had to ping them here to tell them that there was an update error that had been going on for 3 months... Support until 2024? my eye... They already forgot that hyperv server existed xD4.2KViews2likes3CommentsRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
"Or, how about just running your workloads on HyperV under Windows 11? That works too, and it's not going anywhere, and it's just fine! AND FREE with your Windows 11 Pro license." 3 interests of hv server : 1) Free 2) Very low consumption 3) Minimum attack surface No sense to use windows pro/ent for these 3 raisons, windows server for 1st and 3rd raisons. I dont understand that : "and VMware's demise in the wake of the acquisition is imminent" (translate in french hard to understand). MS will buy VMWARE ?7.5KViews1like0CommentsRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
First, any mini pc consum 200w all time. Same for normal pc. Second, you NEVER keep on the management pc. You open, you do your job, and you close the management pc. The only management interface keep on, is the hypervisor, and the management VM if exist. Last, it was not an order, it's a typical way to manage : Never do administration on the main... Only for loud maintenance5.9KViews0likes1CommentRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
You don't need windows "SERVER" for that. You can do use windows 10 pro. You can use hyperV platform. You can RDP to Hyperv server without any GUI on the server. It's the safer hypervisor with lowest attackable surface, lower resources comsuption. No useless role. Only Hypervisor. It's a very bad news and a big lost this SKU was no longer update in futur.4.6KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
Hello, New strategic way for MS : Stop updates for HyperV Server before 2029 ! Since 3 months or more, we all have the same update error about defender : "1> Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus antimalware platform - KB4052623 (Version 4.18.2207.7): Failed Installation Result: Failed" https://i.ibb.co/M28gNXG/2022-10-11-14h15-10.jpg Maybe you have never paid attention, but just try to list update and try to install the KB4052623. Tested it on fresh install continue to occur the pb. The proof the pb is known since "a lot" (more than 3 months) : https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/910954/windows-defender-update-failes-on-hyper-v-2019-cor.html?page=2&pageSize=10&sort=oldest https://www.google.com/search?q=hyperv+defender+platform+fail+22074.1KViews0likes9CommentsRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
Elden_Christensen "we are no longer giving Hyper-V away for free, with the Microsoft Hyper-V Server edition" Hello, And for paid licence ? Paid for hyperV server 2023, with the same features as 2019 ? If Windows server cost about 1000€, we can imagine a licence for about 100€ ? (Because no of many roles). And imagine a 10€ cost per 2cpu pack ? In One buy... no ? (No mensual/annual paid)4.7KViews1like15CommentsRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
The hyperV replication not need any licence migration... You can't start the two mahines at the same time with same copy of OS (aka licence in US, that not exist in France). It's the same ID, the same system. A replication is basicaly a save/backup, as a clone. You can have 10 systems on the first machine, 10 replications on the second, and moving "for all time" 5 machines on the second hypervisor, with not end delay, because you want split performances, and accept a degraded mode when issue comming on 1 hypervisor for exemple. Just respect "it's the same machine, so I can't run 2 on the same time with the same licence". Any people in Microsoft blames you if you start for a short time the two mahine, after any crash (in the case where you have launch the replication for continu work after bug of the main system), to migrate some data for any reasons. But "short moment" is not 10 years... It's like 1 or 2 weeks maybe, where the initial machine is not use as service (or 2nd)... 1 day in fact in real situation where we xan imagine this scenario. Or for time to re-migrate at starting point.5.2KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
There is non-sense. I refuse to let internet controled remotely my servers. It's Always the attack surface the pb. Hyper-v server standalone, in current state, is the most perfect Microsoft system for maximum security. If I can operate sub system or system through internet, you destroy that... This azure is not for "on oremise" system.5.1KViews0likes1CommentRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
JCinAtlanta We are multiple users (and students) in this case. Most of them are interest by a free hypervisor, with very low consomption (no OS GUI, services, etc...), and the lower surface for attackers. So, we don't appreciate the "windows server X" (standard or datacenter) to replace hyperV standalone. Most of people here go migration on proxmox, some on VmWare, or others system with limitations (Vmware free is 8 vcpu limited per VM for exemple). I choiced TrueNas Scale (for the moment, I study it). It seems hyperv 2019 will be received updates of security up to 2029 (2024 seems be only feature update... that is useless on hyperV)5.7KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Hyper-V Server 2022
Ok, Thank for this concret answer. I'm student, and I'll never paid 10$/month/core (versus free). I use replication and "hot swap" between machine (I'm french, I don't know the english word). Fo me, the support of hv 2019 is for janury, 2024, because I'm not professional, so I don't have access to the premium support up to 2029. It's the end of route for MS and I, soon... Thank for all the versions and free licencing you build up to this day.13KViews0likes1Comment
