Re: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Eleanor_HuynhRE: "A sleeping tab resumes automatically when clicked, which is different than discarded tabs, which require the page to fully be reloaded." Is there a discarded tabs feature also in Edge? If not I'd suggest a further 'power state' option that causes tabs to enter the discarded state after a set time in sleep state to save even more system resources.12KViews1like1CommentRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Eleanor_HuynhEleanor, I'd like to make a suggestion which is related to why I keep multiple tabs open for days on end in the first place. Bookmarks don't save one's position within a website. Essentially why I keep tabs open is to bookmark not just the page but my location within the page. So, what I'd prefer even more than sleeping tabs is the ability to bookmark a page + one's position within the page. Then I could just bookmark pages into appropriately labelled tab groups instead of leaving them all open consuming resources unnecessarily. I wonder if anyone else here keeps tabs open because of they don't want to lose their position within the webpages?13KViews2likes1CommentRe: Dev channel update to 87.0.644.4 is live
josh_bodnerThanks Josh. It could have auto-updated since then though, no? Would someone have have had to have downloaded that version from a specific beta repository or was the beta offered to the general public back then via the normal release channels?2KViews0likes1CommentRe: Dev channel update to 87.0.644.4 is live
josh_bodnerIt was around the 25th September. When was that version released? I'm not sure how I could have installed a beta version. I didn't use the insider site until this issue arose? Pretty sure it was an intruder logging in unless you can explain how I would have installed that version somewhere.2KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Strongly disagree. The tab right click menu is sectioned off into 3 sections. I don't have any trouble finding what I need. The put tab to sleep item could go in the same section as Close tab which only has 3 items in it. Are you using the right click menu so many times in rapid succession that you're getting slowed down by the number of items in it?240KViews0likes1CommentRe: Introducing Sleeping Tabs Experiment: Improving Memory Usage in Microsoft Edge
Eleanor_Huynh This is a much needed function, thank you. I often have many tabs open that unnecessarily slow down my machine and use most of it's memory. For this feature, please include a right click tab menu item "Put tab to sleep' that changes to "Wake tab" after the tab has gone to sleep. To wake the tab again user must either select 'Wake tab' from the right click menu, or hit refresh, or select another tab and come back to this tab. Thanks Raimond240KViews6likes8Comments
