Re: New Outlook is useless!
Microsoft and Satya are losing their minds. Their quest in trying to modern apperize everything is a terrible strategy; it's the same mistake that Steve Balmer made with Windows 8.1. Mobile devices (phones, tablets) and PCs are 2 separate things. Mobile devices are quick and light (although that doesn't mean complex tasks can't still be handled albeit less efficient/convenient) and PCs are large, detailed, function powerhouses. It'd be like taking Excel away for some basic version like OneNote Desktop vs OneNote app. MICROSOFT AND SATYA, people use Outlook desktop for all its functional and customizable glory. I need all the professional features (even in my personal life) that are not even remotely dreamable online or in the modern app. Please 100% scrap this effort while ahead and reallocate all resources working on this effort to a better cause, PLEASE!!! In fact, here's an idea that I think Balmer should've pursued with 8.1 but I don't think the technology or culture was quite ready yet (and was somewhat attempted with Windows Phones years ago)... Mobile devices that provide full-fledged Windows Pro when docked while providing Mobile experience on the go. The problem with 8.1 was that the full-fledged experience was the same as the mobile experience; this is where people hated it for PCs. The difference is single devices that can SWITCH experience between the two. Samsung has the right idea with Samsung Dex here, however, Dex just isn't quite the full PC and cannot install classic applications/programs and therefore can't quite replace Windows. SATYA, you have the opportunity here that Balmer missed... On that note, yes, the New Outlook is great as a standalone Modern App (we have to come up with new terms for Classic vs Modern) version that replaces mail and calendar and is easy to get started with for middle schoolers so that their first overloading exposure to Outlook isn't their first corporate job after college (the real root cause problem for Microsoft). But then by the time they hit their first corporate job or internship, it's easy for them to transition to full-fledged grown-up Outlook.99Views1like0Comments
