Re: Is there a way to update users computers via intune?
That's a great question! While we recommend you maintain the default settings, the one setting we do recommend you set it deadline. Configuring deadline will enforce users to have to take the update within X number of days you specify. If a user pauses the update, the deadline counter will start once the the pause has ended so that the user has to take the update after pause. End users will be offered a chance to update through a walkthrough before the device is forced to update and reboot. You can check out more details about setting a compliance deadline and the end user experience here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/update/wufb-compliancedeadlines2.9KViews1like1CommentRe: Is there a way to update users computers via intune?
As long as the devices are enrolled in Intune and Azure AD Joined, the devices will be able to take the updates from home even when not connected to your domain network. In your example, assuming John Doe's computer is enrolled in Intune (and hence Azure AD Joined), his device will be updated. End users have the ability to pause an update for up to 35 days which they can set by going into Windows Update settings.2.8KViews1like3CommentsRe: Is there a way to update users computers via intune?
Hi BBI-Kyle , Within Intune you can create Win10 device update rings. Within the update ring there are policy settings regarding the update process. We recommend you do not change any of the default settings. As you create the update ring you can add a device group of the group of devices you want to get updated by Windows Update. Check out the below for a walkthrough! Configure Windows 10 update rings policy in Intune - Azure | Microsoft Docs2.9KViews1like5CommentsRe: Enablement Packages through MEM
Hi Tim Overdorf , If your end goal is to reap the benefits of the enablement package to avoid the full feature upgrade process for your end users, how you deploy whether through Intune or CMG won't make a significant difference to the end user experience. To avoid the full feature upgrade process going forward, you'll need your devices to get on 20H1 minimum such that future feature upgrades (such as 21H2 going forward) are only enablement packages and avoid the full feature upgrade experience. Since you're devices are on 1809/1909 since they are already end of service, they will get offered the latest OS version available unless you have Feature Update deferrals in place.2.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: WUfB enabled with Update Baseline, No Notifications
Yes, those notifications are for Quality Updates as well as Feature Updates! As long as you have the compliance deadline configured you don't need to check other reg keys/scheduled tasks to make sure the notifications are showing. 🙂 - Specify deadlines for automatic updates and restarts (Enabled) - Display options for update notifications (Enabled - set to 0 AKA default)4.3KViews1like1CommentRe: WUfB enabled with Update Baseline, No Notifications
That's awesome! Glad to hear, JackEller! Always gotta watch out for forgotten/remaining reg keys 🙂 (which is why we build the Update Baseline to begin with! But looks like we can give more warning about the Not Configured policies in the Update Baseline) Let us know if you have any other questions or issues.4.4KViews1like3CommentsRe: WUfB enabled with Update Baseline, No Notifications
Hi JackEller, you can reference our email thread going through this, but for those with a similar issue, if you have deployed the Update Baseline, Intelligent Active Hours are not active. The Update Baseline is to configure policies to get you to as close as the default experience as possible (this is for IT admins that are concerned about not clearing out reg keys out all the way). However, for Intelligent Active Hours to take place, the following policies specifically need to be set to "Not Configured" which means there must be *no* reg key for these policies. To enable your Intelligent Active Hours, you will need to clean out the reg keys for the below policies. - Specify active hours range for auto-restarts - Turn off auto-restart for updates during active hours For your notifications issue, since you have deadlines enabled your devices should be getting notifications to alert about an upcoming deadline. Do you get notifications when your devices are approaching their deadline? Best, Kay4.4KViews1like5Comments
