Hi BenRooke Unfortunately there is no way to retain the Teams Chat messages when you apply any of the Skype for Business Modes (Skype for Business Only, Skype for Business with Teams Collaboration, Skype for Business with Teams Collaboration & Meetings). You cannot go to the mailbox and looks for those messages either, no option. The only way to properly do this is move to Teams Only mode ASAP for the users that can, federation and phone calls will land in Teams You should stay away from Islands mode as much as you can because there is no interop with Skype for Business at all. I have other customers also needing to byte this bitter pill but it all comes to how Teams was introduced in the first place and proper planning did not go into introducing teams correctly. Right Federation on Teams can be enabled but not on Skype for Business as no EDGE is present. Yes then two separate infra without interop SFB <> Teams could maybe work but Meeting Migration Service will not work either next to not being able to move contacts.

You can only get Federation working after you remove all Skype fir Business users and configure them in the Cloud as Teams Only and then reconfigure your Federation DNS Records. Or another option is to use a different SIP domain for federation in Office 365 & Teams but that will be hard to communicate to users, partners and customers

MTayal A Skype for Business Hybrid setup requires EDGE Servers. Skype for Business Hybrid is required to have Teams and Skype to work with Federation. All Federation DNS Records must point to Skype for Business On-Prem and can only be removed or reconfigured when all users have been migrated to Microsoft Teams. This means all federation requests come into Skype for Business Server and are sent to the Online users over the Hybrid Connection. Also the Hybrid setup is required for the Skype for Business On-Prem & Teams Users to have Interop working between the platforms. Additionally you will need to use TeamsOnly for the users that need to receive federation in Teams Client and no longer in Skype for Business. Any other Upgrade Mode including Islands Mode will receive federated & interop communication in the Skype for Business client (even for online users)

Hi, The actual values (seconds) can be configured in the Skype for business Topology for Automatic Voice Failover. By default this is 300 seconds (you will have to include TCP disconnects and retries so not exactly 300 seconds but may be off by a few minutes) The second part is relying on your DNS SRV/Lyncdiscoverinternal records configuration which may also cause issues if not done correctly.
