Re: Edge Chromium's URL bar randomly appear inside web app
zeno_at_reckon that is a good feature request. I wasn't aware Chrome did that. Thanks. In Edge, we do have the feature that allows you to install any site this way: if you click on "Settings and More" then "Apps" then "Install this site as an app" that will also install it to open in its own window. Alternatively, depending on what you really want to have happen, you can also click on "Settings and More" then "More tools" then "Pin to Taskbar". -John558Views0likes0CommentsRe: Bug: Dragging tabs in PWA tab strip crashes the PWA.
ahpatel thanks for reporting this. The PWA Tabs feature is definitely something that needs a lot of work before we make additional progress on it. We do have this crasher in our backlog and it will be fixed before we start to make the feature available without enabling the flag. -John1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: When using Eye selection tool in microsoft edge it stops
Thanks for the video. I am not able to reproduce that issue in Stable, Beta, Dev, or Canary. Interesting. It actually looks like a crash happens to you, so we should get crash data on that - it might be that we already fixed it and in your next update things will work as expected. -John1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Kids Mode secuirty Hole Version 96.0.1054.62 (Official build) (64-bit) Windows 10
Thanks for reporting this! I do think it is a bug, but I don't actually work on that feature so I'm not 100% sure. Did you file feedback from the browser itself yet? You can do so from the ... menu (click on "Help and Feedback" and then "Send Feedback" (or ALT + SHIFT + I). That will send a ticket to the product group. If not, I will log this for you. -John Jansen Engineering Manager, Edge573Views0likes0CommentsRe: Random PWA Identity Proxy Host background crashes
Hey JohnnyGui, in looking at our internal data that has been sent to Microsoft, we are not seeing hits in 96, though we do see a lot in 95. I wonder if it's possible your identity_helper.exe did not update to 96 somehow. Can you confirm the version of identity_helper.exe from the Properties::Details tab? NOTE: This should not have a negative impact on the app usage, as it happens on exit, so it was already going away before it stopped responding. -John27KViews0likes5CommentsRe: Random PWA Identity Proxy Host background crashes
Thanks for reporting this, JohnnyGui. I think this is a crash we are familiar with and believe we have fixed in the version 96 which should be available very soon. If these continue after updating to 96, please let me know. Due to the somewhat random behavior, we cannot be 100% sure we fixed it completely. -John Jansen Engineering Manager, Edge27KViews0likes8CommentsRe: Edge v95 --app not working?
Thanks for asking about this sghosh1115. This is a known issue currently with the Chromium code base (the code that is shared between Chrome and Edge). We are discussing the use case in the public bug you can see here: https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/3239022 There is some debate about whether this should be a supported scenario or not. I believe it should be, as leveraging --app with --inprivate is a really compelling scenario to me, but you may notice that when you are in an inprivate window we do not let you pin or install the site. Regardless of all of that discussion, hearing a customer voice that says they like the feature and use it regularly does help. -John Jansen Engineering Manager, Edge690Views1like0CommentsRe: Can not get new window handles in Edge IE Mode with Selenium
Thanks for submitting this, smartekworks. This is a known limitation with the way windows are created in IEMode currently. We are looking at different ways to fix this. What might end up happening is we will land changes in the SeleniumHQ project that will enable automating IEMode more naturally with IEDriverServer. We are in the process right now of building out a design. Keep the feedback coming! -John Jansen Engineering Manager, Edge3.6KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Edge closes unexpectedly
This is a great piece of advice, pp_e2, we do read all the feedback submitted, and this one would come directly to my team. I have the same build of Windows and Edge on my machine and I'm not seeing this at present. The page not responding issue is separate and should be filed separately (with the URL). I am guessing that something went wrong with a recent update and uninstalling/reinstalling will fix your issues - I know that's a pain. We are investigating a number of different "launch and crash" issues, so hopefully we are able to get this figured out soon. -John2.8KViews0likes1CommentRe: PWA Header Color Change Option
katyusha thanks for asking about this. We have not yet been able to prioritize this one - we had a prototype up and going, but in our experiment, it was confusing for customers and made app developers disappointed because they wanted to control that color themselves. For example, with the Google Chat app, they specify the white color themselves, so we honor that to allow them to control their brand. We do plan on having some solution for this, but we need to do more customer research. -John3.4KViews0likes4CommentsRe: [Feature Request] Open Installed apps by default from edge
These are on the way. We've started documenting our new features at this URL: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/progressive-web-apps-chromium/whats-new/pwa#url-handlers-origin-trial our plan is to post there for every release. You can see that URL Handlers and Protocol Handlers are both in Origin Trial, which means that developers can enable them for their PWAs now, and if they do that, then you can enable them on your end. Unfortunately, we don't have a good way to show you (the end user) which developers are actually participating in the Origin Trial. Origin Trials are meant to be a way for devs to give us direct feedback on the API surface. TL;DR: unless we get feedback that says we need to change the API surface in some dramatic way, our target is always three or four releases between OT and on by default in Stable. So you should expect these to work (hopefully) in Edge 95 or 96 (which are currently planned for October and November). -John6.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Remember tabs / windows in PWA mode
Hey minimalistdave , Thanks for the feedback. For PWAs, we have what's known as the "Start URL" which is where we always navigate after the app has been closed down. We do have some work in our backlog to allow for the scenario you want, but it likely won't happen for a little while yet... -John Jansen Engineering Manager, Edge577Views0likes0CommentsRe: View In File Explorer function in Sharepoint Site Does Not Work In IEMode
Thanks for reporting this, Cellulose. When you perform those steps in IE itself, you should get a permissions prompt to allow access to the filesystem. While that permissions prompt is up, you also can see a browser window like what you describe. Is it possible the permissions prompt came up on a different monitor or behind the Edge window or anything like that? -John1.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: PWAs and sleeping tabs
Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Tio_Dep. If I am reading this right, you are saying that when a PWA is inactive for a period of time, it just closes itself automatically. Is that correct? I am not seeing that, so I want to make sure I understand what you're seeing. -John Jansen Microsoft Edge997Views0likes2Comments
