Re: Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer.

But all's well that ends well! Why didn't Microsoft create a KB to cover this situation!? That was in 2014, and water over the dam now, but it shouldn't be this hard guys/gals! Hopefully this community posting will help others in the future.6.8KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Why isn't my post published?
HotCakeX I can see the post if I click on the link posted in this question. But I don't see the post in my profile subscriptions. I have the option turned on to subscribe to my own posts. This seems related to another question about duplicate/same personal and business accounts in the tech community. I'd like to consolidate my account and avoid this confusion. See that thread over (here).620Views0likes0CommentsRe: confusion over user accounts on the tech community
gperkins and @geoperkins are both me, and I am myself, but these two profiles seem strangely both unlinked and linked at the same time. I had to manually search for and find my own content (here) and subscribe to it in order to receive notifications and find it quickly in my own profile. How weird is that? @gperkins is here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/289689 @geoperkins is here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/301769 How do I consistently login to my account(s)?1.5KViews0likes5CommentsRe: confusion over user accounts on the tech community
HotCakeX the problem is that notifications, subscriptions, etc., only arrive in my personal email InBox and I never see them in my business InBox. When in fact I had a business-related question/problem for the community, I didn't get notified of any activity. This question is for the moderators or owners of Tech Community. In the 'good old days' of TechNet I'd just have two separate accounts for Technet and not this confusion.1.5KViews0likes6Commentsconfusion over user accounts on the tech community
I seem to have two different profiles on the techcommunity, can they be consolidated? I have a business M365 account I have a personal M365 account Different e-mails, etc., but they are sort-of cross-linked in techcommunity. Confusing. How best to be one person with two e-mails using techcommunity?1.7KViews0likes8CommentsRe: RSAT missing DNS Server Tools?
Correction: As of Win10 1909 N feature release, the DNS management tool is available in the Add Features settings. Please ignore the previous rant about RSAT and DNS not being available. I had previously installed all of the RSAT tools using the Add Feature portion of Settings, but was missing DNS. I found I also was missing a few others. So looked into further and found the problem is that the installer is balky. So if you select multiple, they seem to get queued up. Be careful to not interrupt the installer! Or, in my case, you do not have a complete winsxs library of all feature cab files. I am still working on getting a complete winsxs folder with all of the required cab files for RSAT. For the record, here are screenshots.8.3KViews0likes1CommentRe: RSAT missing DNS Server Tools?
DNS management tools are STILL broken in Win10 N 1909. Microsoft now insists that all RSAT should install using the Add Feature (please read https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=45520&40ddd5bd-f9e7-49a6-3526-f86656931a02=True) on the RSAT download page: "IMPORTANT: Starting with Windows 10 October 2018 Update, RSAT is included as a set of "Features on Demand" in Windows 10 itself. See "Install Instructions" below for details, and "Additional Information" for recommendations and troubleshooting. RSAT lets IT admins manage Windows Server roles and features from a Windows 10 PC." The published work-around (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-client/system-management-components/rsat-client-missing-dns-server-tool) contains downloads for RSAT for 1709 and 1803, which violate the "IMPORTANT" notice for the Add Feature directive. And do not work because the work-around is built for 1709 or 1803, not 1909 and later feature releases of Win10. The earlier recommendation in this thread to copy 4 files into my Win10 system directories from some other location and then register them is nice to have, but it violates the security of the OS ... I can't believe Microsoft is really allowing this situation to continue with out addressing the root-cause! It is a partial answer because it omits the DNS command-line tool (somewhat nit-picking here, since Win2016 uses PowerShell, but if you are managing old DNS or have scripts and need backward compatibility to the original DNSCMD command line DNS interface, you still need DNSCMD). So the updated work-around answer to this thread is below: Copy from C:\Windows.old\Windows\System32: dnscmd.exe dnsmgmt.msc dnsmgr.dll To C:\Windows\System32 Copy from C:\Windows.old\Windows\System32\en-us: dnscmd.exe.mui dnsmgmt.msc DNSmgr.dll.mui To C:\Windows\System32\en-us Elevated command prompt: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dnsmgr.dll Make a shortcut to C:\Windows\System32\dnsmgmt.msc and copy the shortcut into your Start Menu %ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Windows Administrative Tools\8.3KViews0likes0CommentsRe: ADFS SSO sign-in as different user
gperkins We have developed a solution to this issue. Please see my answer on the TechNet forums here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/79c2050b-9977-4524-83a5-eb47d86e2f96/bypass-adfs-sso-url-side-door-into-portalofficecom?forum=ADFS (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/79c2050b-9977-4524-83a5-eb47d86e2f96/bypass-adfs-sso-url-side-door-into-portalofficecom?forum=ADFS) I hope that is useful.22KViews0likes0CommentsRe: ADFS SSO sign-in as different user
Vasil, You state "you can disable WIA/autologin by removing the AD FS URL from the local zone" I assume you mean using settings in the IE11 browser, and the local Intranet zone? These are set by group policy and blocked. So going back to Gurdev's question, that implies a non-domain workgroup computer which has no group policy. Is there no other method? For example, our situation, we have many ADFS federated partner websites besides Office365. We want the locally loggedin non-privileged user to continue to have single signon to all those sites, including Office365. But also have the ability, as in Gurdev's question, to occasionally specify alternative credentials. One of the ADFS partner's allows, this, namely ServiceNow. They offer an alternate URL called side_door. That URL allows the user to specify a different user and password. Does Office 365 have a "side door" alternative URL?22KViews0likes2Comments
