Error code: SBOX_FATAL_MEMORY_EXCEEDED
Edge Canary (Version 85.0.556.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit)) I'm getting this error message: Error code: SBOX_FATAL_MEMORY_EXCEEDED edge, specifically in Maui Jim's website such as this: https://www.mauijim.com/US/en_US/shop/sunglasses/rectangular Sometimes I get the error, but otherwise the page just sits there and loads forever. I will send a bug report as well but was curious to see if anyone else saw this.79KViews1like9CommentsRe: Any chance of a compact mode? The titlebar / tab bar is HUUUUUGGGGEEEE !!
HotCakeX Unfortunately what is most likely is that this will continue to be a Chrome clone and it will convince very few to switch to it. Loyal Edge users such as myself will also be lost as they realize they might as well just go with Chrome. Although personally I went with Firefox seeing as how Microsoft is most likely going to support Google's despicable manifest v3. All I want (and I bet loyal Edge users also want) is the old Edge but with the Chromium wrapper for max compatibility, it's not that difficult to grasp devs. Of course privacy and adblocking on par with Firefox and free from Google's influence would be nice, but I fear that is a pipe dream.11KViews0likes1CommentRe: Any chance of a compact mode? HotCakeX Yes it definitely should be optional. I'm not sure on Chrome as I don't have it installed. What's funny is that I still have the old Edge installed and it's titlebar/tab bar is about the same size as Firefox's normal mode, both much smaller than Chromium Edge. So for some reason MS actually made the new Edge's sizing much larger, I wonder why?11KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Any chance of a compact mode? The titlebar / tab bar is HUUUUUGGGGEEEE !!
FYI I still like the larger UI for high resolution touch tablets like my surface pro, although I don't have much of a problem on a touch screen with Firefox's normal mode. Also don't let me forget, what happens when you enable the favorites bar? It becomes that much larger.11KViews0likes5CommentsRe: Any chance of a compact mode? HotCakeXThe UI does not scale very much, I'll post a picture of a lower resolution tablet later on that I have at home so you can see how huge this is on a lower resolution. Those bars literally take up 1/3 of the screen, especially since elements are scaled up. In my picture in my first post I'm only scaled up 150% because I like small text/UI, realistically my desktop should be scaled higher. In any case Firefox scales as well, so on any scale this is still larger than what Firefox has on it's normal mode, almost twice as big! Personally I think arguments that some UI's are too small or others are too large are useless when the consumer is offered a choice, such as Firefox does. If someone thinks Firefox is too small in compact mode they simply have to go into settings and adjust it to normal mode, simple. I'm not asking for a permanent change, but rather an option. It's just a shame to waste so much valuable space. The following is how it looks on a 4k screen at 300%, which is what Microsoft recommends for my setup. I measured it, it's almost 25% of the screen!11KViews0likes1CommentAny chance of a compact mode? The titlebar / tab bar is HUUUUUGGGGEEEE !!
I'm hoping there is some consideration of a compact or smaller mode for the titlebar and tab bar as currently they are really huge and seem to waste a ton of space. Firefox has a compact mode which is much smaller and more efficient. Firefox actually has 3 modes: Touch, Normal and Compact. The picture below shows Firefox in Normal mode on the left, with the new Edge on the right. Edge's titlebar/tab bar combination is almost twice as large!!! In Firefox compact mode is even smaller, making Edge look that much larger. If this is an accessibility issue for those who need the larger size that should not be an issue at all, just provide users the ability to change this in settings such as Firefox does. My picture here is on a 4k 49" monitor so it seems like there is a decent amount of room. Now imagine this on a lower resolution, along with having scaling and text increased and it would get a lot bigger quickly. This amount of room is not good, especially with a smaller touch tablet. I also realize we have full screen mode, but not all of us want to go full screen. Please consider giving us a compact option to make the titlebar and/or tab bars smaller.12KViews0likes9CommentsAny official dev update if Favorites will be handled like HTML Edge handled them?
I've been using Chromium Edge exclusively on all my work and home PC's for a few weeks now and must say I'm very impressed and pleased with how it's turning out. But the one big gripe I still have is how favorites are handled, in particular just viewing favorites and not the managing portion (which is another issue). I found that on HTML Edge favorites had their own icon and menu right on the tab bar which made it very convenient to access. Additionally favorites had nice large text and icons which made them very easy to press, especially when using a tablet with touch. As it stands currently you have to dig into menus to get to favorites, then have to deal with smaller fonts, honestly it seems like something straight out of 2005. I'd like to hope that this is something that is being planned on and just is lower down the list than other important work, which is totally fine by me. It would be great if we could get an official comment on whether this is planned to be implemented at all in the future, or if it will be ditched and we will be stuck with the current system of accessing favorites.483Views0likes1CommentRe: Option to completely remove Microsoft News Feed
Deleted Thanks, yeah I've seen some pretty nice new tab replacement extensions. My fear is that they have access to all my browsing info, although I suppose I should be worried about MS having that info as well. The reason I would like to stick with the MS new tab page is I like the news feed, but through the forced Bing search and the bright white page I'm forced to ditch Microsoft completeley.18KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Edge favorites menu
JamesSantaBarbara Yeah definitely agree. HTML Edge would have had decent bookmarks management if MS just didn't hide the location of the favorites in file explorer, I really don't know why they make stupid decisions like this. I'm assuming favorites are still hidden in chromium Edge, I haven't been able to find them at least.9.4KViews2likes1CommentRe: Share This Page?

I'm sure it's probably lower down on the list and you guys will get to it.4.8KViews5likes0CommentsRe: How to Change Background of Startup Page?
missionary I have this set, but you are still forced to use Bing as search provider on the new tab page. Entering anything into the address bar uses Google of course, but the search engine on the new tab page itself is Bing. Would love to see an option to change that to Google.2.7KViews2likes0CommentsRe: Edge favorites menu
JamesSantaBarbara Yes you're right, my mistake. Favorites display from HTML Edge is what I'm advocating. Fully agree that HTML Edge Favorites management was abyssmal. Favorites management in chromium Edge seems ok and an improvement. Still needs the ability to select multiple favorites when moving or deleting, especially because the import system stupidly shoves all your imported favorites into its own folder instead of respecting the layout you had on the source browser. Also needs to respect dark mode. This would have been ok in HTML Edge if MS didn't needlessly hide the location of favorites. There was a decent favorites management app that I used that wasn't half bad, but I forget the name of it at the moment.9.4KViews1like6CommentsRe: Edge favorites menu
JamesSantaBarbara "That is one of the biggest flaws that the "original" Edge got wrong? " I didn't say that, or are you saying that? The way favorites/bookmars were handled was one of the great things that HTML Edge got right. It was efficient and elegant and miles ahead of what Chrome and Firefox still have today. "No easy, good way to manage favorites was built-in. And the 3rd-party favorites manager's were horrible at best." I beg to differ, HTML Edge's favorites/bookmarks built in system was excellent, easily the best among all browsers. "Ctrl+Shift+O opens the Favorites manager. EZ." That's an awful way to navigate favorites/bookmarks IMO. It's not a terrible way to actually manage them, although I would opine that just dragging and dropping through HTML Edge browser was much simpler. But to have to press Ctrl Shft O and open a new page EVERY single time I wanted to navigate to a favorite is just awfully involved. "The old Edge was adopted by too few people and was unsuccessful. Google kept messing with how web-page rendering functioned and made Edge less than optimal, so the move to Open-Source chromium to eliminate that problem." Completely agree, but that has very little, if anything, to do with what we are talking about. In just a week or so of using Chromium Edge I think it's great. Just to expound on HTML Edge's low numbers I really doubt that a complete Chrome clone will sway many users to switch to Edge, especially if Google uses MS's code for smooth scrolling/zooming. If I'm going to be subjected to an inefficient way to handle my favorites I might as well stay with Chrome.14KViews2likes10CommentsRe: Edge favorites menu
JamesSantaBarbara That would be a huge shame if MS left out the way the old Edge handled bookmarks, IMO that's one of the absolute top reasons I used it over other browsers. To have to dig into menus just to get to a bookmark, especially if I'm doing a lot of browsing is inefficient, inelegant and very frustrating at best. I've always hated how Chrome handles bookmarks this way. Instead of being simpler, as you put it, it just makes more work. I also hope MS isn't trying to be visually compatible with Chromium/Chrome, I would hope they take their browser in the direction they want to instead of just being a clone, otherwise they are going to have a hard time convincing existing users to switch to their browser. Differentiation is where it's at, and that's a big reason why most of us chose the old Edge as our browser of choice.14KViews9likes13CommentsRe: How to Change Background of Startup Page?
missionary Wow that extension is really cool, I'm playing around with it. Do you know if you can change the Bing search to Google? I didn't see any options for that in settings. The only thing missing, other than customizable search, is some kind of News feed. I'm really digging the customizable backgrounds which get me away from Microsoft's blinding white backgrounds.2.8KViews0likes2CommentsScroll bar way too narrow
I believe this is a recent change although I'm not certain. It seems like the scroll bar, the bar on the right you can grab with the mouse to scroll up and down, is substantially narrower than the old Edge. It's very difficult to even see, especially in dark mode, and tough to grab. Is this as intended?1.4KViews0likes1CommentRe: Option to completely remove Microsoft News Feed
BTW for what it's worth, I actually like the News Feed. I would only like 2 things. 1) The news content only takes up the center, with huge gutters on either side. The feed needs to be stretched to either side to fully fill the browser screen. 2) Remove whatever code is blocking extensions like Dark Reader from darkening the webpage, that blinding bright white doesn't sit well with my sleeping wife.18KViews1like0CommentsRe: Option to completely remove Microsoft News Feed
Update, so I downloaded the latest Canary and can now remove favorites from the new tab bar, AWESOME! But Bing search still persists even if I change search in settings to another provider. Build seems to run more smoothly than the weekly build as well. Still no bookmarks menu like the old Edge had, just the atrocious chromium one.82KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Option to completely remove Microsoft News Feed
vineydhiman I must be on an older version, does this auto update or am I supposed to download new builds as they come out? I'm on the weekly release (Version 74.1.96.24 (Official build) dev (64-bit) and it says I'm on the latest release. In my setup I only get an option to allow or disallow favorites, there is no menu for Always/Never/Only on new tabs. When on a new tab page and checking the favorites tab off the favorites tab actually shrinks a tiny bit, so it's changing something, but it persists. Same with search, if I change it in settings it still stays as Bing in the new tab page. I'm going to download a fresh browser to see if I just need to update.82KViews0likes4Comments
