What is causing you to believe that underscores are problematic for OneDrive? The article I linked in my previous post doesn't indicate there is any issues with underscores. Furthermore, since my last post I've rebooted my computer and after reboot the 3 files in the screenshot appear to have now been uploaded without any manual renaming on my part or any auto-renaming from OneDrive. In addition OneDrive is no longer complaining about sync issues. So I don't really know what exactly it was complaining about in the first place. But the problem now is that OneDrive initially flagged hundreds of files for sync issues, and without access to a log I have no idea of knowing whether OneDrive auto-renamed any of the files to resolve the sync issues.Re: Is there a log for identifying files that OneDrive automatically renames to resolve sync issues?
Based on the following article underscore ( _ ) does not seem to be an invalid character: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/onedrive-can-rename-files-with-invalid-characters-99333564-c2ed-4e78-8936-7c773e958881 The .pdf and .docx in the screenshot represent the file extensions, not the filename. When the tray application is showing files that are successfully syncing I still see file extensions (such as .pdf and .docx) displayed for the successfully synced files. My reading of the article is following should all be fine: myfile.pdf (.pdf is the extension, not the filename) my_file.pdf (underscore is ok) my.file.pdf (not relevant to my screenshot but I think even this would be fine as the period prior to the file extension is not the final character in the filename) However, the following would be expected to produce a sync issue myfile..pdf (period at end of filename before the extension)Re: Is there a log for identifying files that OneDrive automatically renames to resolve sync issues?
Deleted Thanks for the reply. It's a shame there is no log to see what has been automatically renamed. The auto rename feature seems extremely opaque without this. Regarding manually checking for files with special characters like(_/\<>:"|?*) in their names - the issue here is even when OneDrive complains about sync issues its not clear to me exactly what the problems are. For example, below is a screenshot I took of the sync issues section of the tray application on one of the occasions I received sync issue messages after moving some folders into my OneDrive folder. The tray application doesn't give any useful information about what the specific problem is (i.e. exactly which character is problematic). It doesn't appear to me that there are any problematic characters in the filenames. The same is true if I look at the full folder path leading to these files. So it seems to me the only "solution" is to allow OneDrive to automatically rename any files it has problems with. As an aside (in case these forums are monitored by Microsoft for user issues/feedback), its also not helpful that OneDrive refers to organisation policies when I'm using a personal OneDrive account.Is there a log for identifying files that OneDrive automatically renames to resolve sync issues?
I'm moving large quantities of files into my OneDrive folder (several hundred GBs) and I'm periodically receiving sync issue messages from the OneDrive tray application of the form "The name of a OneDrive item contains characters that prevent syncing. We can replace characters with an underscore". If I allow OneDrive to rename the files (which will be hundreds of files for me), is there a way to access a log which shows which files OneDrive has renamed? I'm using OneDrive Personal on Windows 10.
