Re: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
HazelMoates Not sure what your exact problem is. Is it things you mark as junk are not going to junk or you are getting junk emails still? If emails you marked as junk are still getting through I really don't know what the fix is since they never really addressed it with a legit fix. One day Bestbuy email just stopped coming to my inbox and going to junk like they are supposed to do after I marked them as junk and blocked. If it is just any kind of junk mail still coming to your inbox, sadly there really isn't an effective way to fix that. You can up the security to a higher blocking but then it will only allow emails on your contact list. I suppose you could create an email just to communicate with people on your contact list and another for everything else. But even emails that I have never used except for one thing still get junk. What really concerns me is that sometimes I will get emails for someone else with a similar email address. It makes me concerned for security since what happens if they get mine for password resets, or other things that might allow them to access my account.7.7KViews1like3CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
Scott Landry They were not on the safe senders list. Plus, I would think marking them as junk mail and putting them on the blocked list would remove them from the safe senders list if they were there. If not then that is something they need to fix because adding them to one should remove them from the other. But whatever it was Microsoft finally fixed it since I have not seen a single email from that group in a few months. And from the lack of replies I am guessing it was fixed for the others. So it was definitely something that was being allowed (unintentionally) by Microsoft. It could have been some hack or glitch. I keep my system updated with the Windows 10 Defender and an anti malware/spyware, antivirus that is Windows Defender compatible. It is on 24/7. I also use the software to block untrusted sites. If it was just me having the problem I would say it was something on my side but since others have the problem it had to be something bigger. Most people probably never bother to come here to ask about things like that.8.3KViews1like11CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
Anyone still having the problem? Creating a rule would send the emails to a folder and get them out of the way but recently those emails have seemed to disappear. They are not being sent to the junk folder or that folder I set up to catch all the geeksquad emails. Did Microsoft finally crack down? It's just weird that they all disappeared. I went from multiple emails a day from geeksquad to 0 for the week. Something changed.8.6KViews1like2CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
I tried that a few months ago but I will try it again. I kind of gave up on this until others have been replying they have the same issue. I just took it as just more junk mail and ignored it. Lately I have gone through and been unsubscribing for all the legit emails I get from signing up for things. But the junk keeps coming. When you say you need to log into the microsoft account and block it from there, do you mean https://outlook.live.com or https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft36548KViews1like16CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
Thanks for the emails. I never knew that there was a place I could report them. They should add a tooltip popup when you flag something as junk that you can also send an email. I even took the Microsoft Office certifications Powerpoint, Word, Excel and Outlook and the Outlook part did not talk at all about these emails. I would think that as a certification test it would address this. Oh well, thanks for letting me know48KViews1like0CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
I don't normally check my email on my phone or tablet. I usually do it with the full blown Office 365 Outlook on my PC. I created the rule, sent to junk mail and blocked that address through Outlook on the PC. I can't imagine how it keeps getting through unless they found some bug in their mail server. This is the only email address that keeps getting through. As I said in previous emails, this email address sends emails on all kinds of spam topics which appear to be scams such as being about an order or a charge. This is why I think Microsoft needs to find out why this keeps getting through because it could be said they are allowing hackers in since Microsoft doesn't seem to be taking this too serious. I have reloaded my computer and I always keep Windows antivirus active and an antivirus program that was deemed compatible with Windows 10 antivirus. I even have antivirus on my phone and tablet.49KViews1like20CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
Well, that didn't last long before it adapted. It was something like 2-3 days where the rule worked and now I logged into email and there were the geeksquad emails. I created the rule again and it moved them out of the folder but I don't know why the original rule didn't move them. I confirmed I still had just those 3 addons in Edge and Chrome. I have never used IE since I reloaded my computer and Firefox I do not have any extensions added there. I use that when I am having issues to check if it is a problem with the site or my side. If it happens in all 3 browsers Edge, Chrome and Firefox it is a good indicator that it is their side. Then I will try on the laptop and if it still does not work the company can say it is not them all they want but it is. Eventually the company will change something on their side and it gets fixed. Which is what I am hoping will eventually happen here.49KViews1like22CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
Deleted I keep a very tight reign on what apps have permission to my logins. I generally only have around a dozen or so apps that have permission and ones that I do not use I remove. If I have the need for them later I will redo permissions. I don't know what Edge and Bing have to do with outlook but I have reinstalled them all recently with a recent reload. Chrome I have 3 addons allowed. Ad Blocker, Clever (an app my kid uses at her school where they do lessons through) and Grammarly. I created a rule that moved all geeksquad emails to another folder and that works. That tells me that outlook is able to differentiate the emails from everything else. So I do not know why tagging geeksquad as junk mail and blocking it does not work. It seems more like someone got a payoff and snuck some code in to allow all this junk mail to filter through. At the very least with how many people must be flagging geeksquad as junk you would think Microsoft filters would flag it as junk. Best buy email still get through. I do not think Best Buy uses geeksquad as an email domain or doesn't use it anymore. I have not seen any legitimate emails from Best Buy with geeksquad domain. I even looked at some of my really old emails from best buy from when I bought items from there and had something repaired there and none of them had geeksquad domain. I am pretty sure it is something on Microsoft side that is allowing these emails to make it through. I do not know why junk or blocking does not stop these geeksquad emails.49KViews1like24CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
Teresa_Cyrus I don't know if unsubscribing is a good option. Most of these emails have nothing to do with Best Buy products or services. I doubt it is a legit email and unsubscribing might confirm to the email bot that it is a valid email address and the emails will increase. Though at this point getting almost 2 dozen a day I can't imagine how many more they will send. The junk folder option doesn't work. I have flagged all the emails as junk and they do not go to junk. I have flagged every configuration of the domain name to be blocked and it still makes it through. I have included a screenshot of 2 emails I have received with the geeksquad domain. I haven't created a rule yet but that is kind of a cop-out option. It still shows up but is put in a folder. I suppose I can try it and see if it works but with these emails bypassing every other method I do not have high hopes of a rule sending them to a folder will work.49KViews2likes26CommentsRe: Excessive Spam, Junk Mail from "geeksquad" email address?
Zeromus I also have this problem. I have added the entire email address to the blocked list and I have added the domain to the list and these keep getting through. It has to be some new trick they have found to fraudulently show the wrong email domain. I would say 80% of the junk I get is from this email. I have went through and redid the block list again but it is pointless in having a block list if it doesn't work49KViews1like0Comments
