Office 365 Group missing after create a Team

New Contributor

Hi Together,

I create a Team in the desktop application and no Office 365 Group was created. This worked some weeks ago without problems. How I get a Office 365 Group now to an existing Microsoft Team?

Teams rely on Groups, no group = no team. But the underlying group no longer show up in Exchange clients like Outlook and OWA, if you want them visible there you can apply some PowerShell magic.

What makes you think that an Office Group was not created?

MC133135 is the message center post (from March) of Office 365 Groups created from Microsoft Teams will be hidden from Outlook by default. It started rolling out in April and will be everywhere by August. This automatically hides new groups in Outlook.  We received this feature last week. With this feature, there is no roll back so this is the new way groups created by Teams, StaffHub, Planner, etc. will behave. Existing groups will remain unchanged (unhidden). The script is group specific to unhide but works well. The mobile app displayed the group almost immediately; the desktop a few hours later.

Hi Together,

first thanks for your quick and very helpful reply.

@Christian JungWe've been struggling with this issue, but found a solution at

In summary, when you create a Team (from scratch, in Teams), a Group (with mailbox, calendar, etc.) is automatically created, but hidden from Outlook (i.e. It won't appear under Groups).

The hiding setting used to be set by default to false but is now by default set to true if created via Teams.
Here's the powershell commands to change the hidden setting so the Group appears in Outlook for all Team members:

• Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned
• $UserCredential = Get-Credential
• $Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri -Credential $UserCredential -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection
• Import-PSSession $Session
set-UnifiedGroup -identity "TeamNameHere" -HiddenFromExchangeClientsEnabled:$false
