I have created a new MS team, Team X, and I know that an email and calendar gets created with that.
The email address has been generated - teamx@contoso.com and it works.

Problem: I am unable to see the new Team X under the groups header in my Outlook desktop app. I am unable to see the calendar in my Outlook desktop app. Team X's email and group name are not searchable as a group when I click Browse Groups.

When I go to the SharePoint of Team X and click Calendar, I can see the calendar in OWA but it's listed under the header "Visited" groups, it is not static, and I cannot add it as a favorite in OWA.

Context: I am part of other existing MS teams, Team Y and Team Z, and their calendar shows up under the groups header in my Outlook desktop.

Troubleshooting:

  • I have tried having someone else at my level/different domain create a new team. Same issue.
  • I have tried having someone else above my level/different domain create a new team. Same issue.
  • If I send an email to the teamx@contoso.com, I am able to see those emails in OWA, so I know the email address is working.
  • I've talked to my helpdesk "Microsoft Teams is supported by Microsoft and available for [our company]to use, however [our company's] helpdesk does not provide support for the application.

Known Workarounds:

  1. Add the calendar as a favorite.
    1. Tried this step in OWA, the option was not available. Not viewable in Outlook.
  2. Share a file to add someone to the group.
    1. Tried to share a file and it said I didn't have permission even though I'm the creator of the group.
    2. Tried leaving the group, Had another owner add me back to the group. No success.
  3. Wait because there may be a wait time after team creation before all features are accessible.
    1. I created Team X on 7/5 and it is now 7/11. It hasn't quite been a week yet.

Microsoft posted a tech notice about this that all created Teams from Teams will hide from outlook clients by default. To get it back into exchange you have to have an admin go to powershell and change he -hiddenfromexchangeclients to false. Here is reference to the solution: https://www.petri.com/hiding-office-365-groups-exchange-clients

Well... that is terrible news... No one knows who to reach out to regarding Admin access to make the change.

They sold us the product and now when I reach my helpdesk, they just say, sorry we cant help you.

I know someone had to have access to get it setup and I'm not sure why groups in the beginning were not hidden from exchange but groups made after April 2018 are hidden from exchange.

That's when the change was made, they left old groups still in clients because they didn't want groups in use to suddenly go away. Most people want Teams just to be Teams and not want to have to deal with groups for conversations etc. That's why the change was made. There should be a setting that can be changed in Outlook for this via UI, or Somewhere else you would think, but right now it has to be done via that Powershell.

@Deleted do you have that tech-net article which shows that Microsoft changed the settings on how Teams can be hidden from outlook client by default?

Highlighted
@Deleted
It was listed in the O365 Admin Message Center;
https://portal.office.com/AdminPortal/home?switchtomodern=true#/MessageCenter?id=MC133135
It held up some of my testing for about a week since I missed it too.

I'm having the same exact problem. We're trying to create a master calendar different departments we work with but we can't add the calendar to outlook nor check the group emails there.

Did you manage to find a solution?

If you have the Teams Desktop client installed, Outlook will see an add-in for Teams, which will automatically be enabled. If you don’t have the desktop client installed, you won’t be able to see the ribbon icon.

Also, when you installed the Desktop version restart the machine. You will see the ribbon added there in your outlook.

If still not, check your Regedit: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\TeamsAddin.FastConnect

Make sure the LoadBehaviour is set to "3".

I had the same Problem an this was my Workaround.

In my Case i created a Group via the Admin Consol at first. After this i went to the SharePoint Groupe Site and created Teams Chanel via the Funktion "Add Teams Channel" at the low left corner. After this i searched for the Group in Outlook Web and joined the Group.

After these Steps i had all the expected Group Funktions. Calender, Mailbox, Teams, Planner, OneNote,...

Please let me know if it worked for you guys too.

For anyone having the same problem, if you are not an Admin and don't have access to the Office 365 Admin Console, your options are limited in how you can manage Office 365 Groups and Teams.

However, if you have the ability to add new Office 365 Groups through Outlook, you could try these steps:

1. Open Outlook and create a new Group

2. Make sure you are not just an Owner of the Group but also a Member

3. Open Teams and create a new Team using the "Add to existing Group" option, selecting the Group that you just created through Outlook

Yeah, noticed that after I entered my post. I hope she did too!
I modified my post to be more general and hopefully help out others who have the same issue and stumble across this later.

@Ms. Aaron Arce

We've been struggling with this issue, but found a solution at

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-Teams/Teams-do-not-create-365-group/m-p/210239.

In summary, when you create a Team (from scratch, in Teams), a Group (with mailbox, calendar, etc.) is automatically created, but hidden from Outlook (i.e. It won't appear under Groups).

The hiding setting used to be set by default to false but is now by default set to true if created via Teams.

Here's the powershell commands to change the hidden setting so the Group appears in Outlook for all Team members:

• Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned
• $UserCredential = Get-Credential
• $Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/ -Credential $UserCredential -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection
• Import-PSSession $Session
set-UnifiedGroup -identity "TeamNameHere" -HiddenFromExchangeClientsEnabled:$false

Please upvote the creation of a toggle in the Admin Center to do the above:

@Oz Oscroft

I read through all of these posts and was not satisfied with the solution so I continued to dig. I found a much easier process.

Best way

Once you are added to a Team or Office 365Group open the Outlook Desktop app. Under the mail tab, under your account you will see a drop-down labeled "groups". Right click on the group that is associated with the calendar and select add to favorites. Once this calendar is a favorite it will show under "My Calendars" in the calendar tab of Outlook.

Other similar method

You can also add this calendar by left clicking instead of right clicking, this will bring you to the shared mailbox for that group. At the top you sill see a Calendar button. After selecting Calendar Outlook will open up a new window displaying your group calendar.

When the window pops up you should see a drop-down on the left that says "All group calendars" and "Favorite group calendars". To add the group calendar to your main list you just need to right click on it and select add to favorites.

For additional information that may effect the outcome:

Windows 10 - 1809 - 64bit

Office Pro Plus 2016 64bit

Teams app is installed

Verified Success on 04/24/19

That only works on Older Teams created before they made the changes to hide them from Outlook. Unless they changed it back for some reason recently, but last I checked it doesn't show groups in Outlook so you can't do any of that, unless it's a Team created before this change, or you go through via PowerShell and change the flag.

@Oz Oscroft I used the following Powershell and it worked pretty quickly.

Connect-Exopssession

Set-UnifiedGroup -identity "TeamNameHere" -HiddenFromExchangeClientsEnabled:$False

I'm fairly new to Powershell so I'm still learning.  Is there a difference in the EXOPSSession versus Import-PSSession $Session?

@Tom RobeyI'm new to PowerShell as well, but have found the following:

The Import-PSSession cmdlet imports commands , such as cmdlets, functions, and aliases, from a PSSession on a local or remote computer into the current session.

Connect-Exopssession appears to be an alternative method for connecting, particularly useful when you use Mulit-Factor Authentication to login.  The important thing is to disconnect the remote PowerShell session when you're finished, otherwise you could use up all the remote PowerShell sessions available to you.

I'm sure others in the Community will be able to provide a better answer, but I'll certainly be looking into Connect-Exopssession as the MFA issue is always a pain for us when we use PowerShell.

@Ms. Aaron Arce

I suggest this interactive script to make visible hidden teams in outlook.

#Connect to Exchange Online:
$UserCredential = Get-Credential
$Session = New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri https://outlook.office365.com/powershell-liveid/ -Credential $UserCredential -Authentication Basic -AllowRedirection
Import-PSSession $Session

#List hidden groups to select:
$TeamsGroups = Get-UnifiedGroup | ?{$_.HiddenFromExchangeClientsEnabled -eq $true} | Out-GridView -Title "Select hidden groups to make visible in Outlook" -PassThru

#Make selected groups visible in outlook
foreach ($TeamsGroup in $TeamsGroups){
set-UnifiedGroup -identity $TeamsGroup.identity -HiddenFromExchangeClientsEnabled:$false
}

#Disconnect
Exit-PSSession $Session
Exit

Kind regards

I am an Admin of a Small Business (Tenant of ca. 15 Users). I never used Powershell.

I really hope Microsoft will make it easier to show these hidden (Teams) Groups in Outlook.

I had the same issue with some newly created teams. Found out the parameter HiddenFromExchangeClientsEnabled was set to True for those groups for some reason. As soon as I made them to be $False, restarted Outlook and it started appearing.

set-UnifiedGroup -Identity "<group name>" -HiddenFromExchangeClientsEnabled:$false

I still have to see why the parameter True by default. I assume depending on the place you create the O365 Unified Group (Via Admin portal Vs. Via Teams)

Hope this helps.
