How would I add a link from a SharePoint file to TEAMS? I see one way by adding to Files as a .url file but there has to simpler way to get link from SharePoint and paste it into TEAMS?

Thanks for any help

Can’t you just press the file and click get link?

What are you trying to accomplish! Is it only specific files you need to link in a team somewhere?

https://sharepointmaven.com/share-vs-get-link-sharepoint-onedrive/

Also know that you can add sharepoint libraries in teams as tabs or as cloud storage in the files tab! Also be aware that all files in teams are located in the underlaying sharepoint team site

@adam deltinger

I'm looking for how-to add a link under the Files tab, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get a link and paste it into the Files Tab.  I only want to do a file here and there not the entire document library from SharePoint.

I mean if you want it as a clickable file in the files tab, then the url is the way to go!

Otherwise you can just paste the link as a message directly instead of making a .url file

@Szewczyk So, I know it's months later and you've probably forgotten about this or found another solution, but I came across this thread while experiencing the same problem, and found the apparent solution of just uploading a .url file unsatisfactory. (At least with the way our computers are set up, clicking on a link to a url of a sharepoint document in the files tab requires the user to click past a warning about downloading a potentially dangerous file, go into their downloads folder to find the downloaded .url file, and then click past another warning to open it. Not exactly quick or intuitive!) Adding a tab for the department sharepoint was also unsatisfactory, since that contained all the files used by the whole department, not just the ones specifically used for this project. Also, some of the files I wanted to include were not on sharepoint at all, but on another website. Since this thread was the only one I found on the topic I thought I'd add my solution for anyone else trying to do the same thing in the future.

I actually found two ways to do it. The first (read: quick and dirty) way is to add a wiki tab to the channel and paste links to each document into it.

The second (and probably more "proper") way is to create a sharepoint for the team (not to be confused with adding an already existing sharepoint library), open it up in the bowser, and then follow these instructions about linking to documents in sharepoint: https://www.collaboris.com/how-to-use-a-link-to-a-document-in-place-of-a-real-document-in-sharepoint...

The catch here is that you still can't click on this link in the files tab and go directly to it, because it does the same download-and-open song and dance that a .url file does. You have to navigate to the link from within the sharepoint tab.

So this is still a thing?   Someone has shared just a *file* with me (from Sharepoint) and all I want to do is have that file listed in the "Files" section of one of my Teams.    I can paste the link as a post to the Team and then scroll to it when needed, but I'd much rather just visit the Files tab and select it from there.

Still seems to be a problem - I have the same need

same need here and no solution... although this is a very basic features...

I am trying to do the same thing.  I don't understand why it is not possible in TEAMS when it is possible in Sharepoint.

I want the link to appear under Files in TEAMS without using the +.

Please fix this asap - this is annoying

this is clearly a missing functionality here in Teams.

let's take this company user story :

1. company have some sharepoint sites for different teams, product, project whatever

    people used it and fill with all the internal/external doc; reference etc...

2. a needs of a cross dept. teams / task force appears

  - If you use the teams CHAT, you don't have the wiki nor you don't have the possibility to add sharepoint links (only onedrive).

- If you create a Teams, you think you can "pin" the necessary project/task topic files that already exists in sharepoint tab, but instead it is a link to the entire site. hence useless

- what is needed is to have the possibility to link Files OR directory pre existing in sharepoint enterprise account into this teams  such as, not the entire company sharepoint.

Links / URL does not work as state before as it create a downloadable file.

sharing whole directory is impracticable

If a teams is created a the begining of a full new project, then putting all doc in the Teams dedicated sharepoint works, well. this is great for the case above as well when creating new content.

We are human and try to find way to avoid trouble so ends doing dirty workaround like putting a wiki page with URL of other docs, having a XLS with the URLs... . very dirty and loosing all the sense and purpose of sharepoint.

Another question. Since it appears that Microsoft just forgot to implement links in the teams files tab -<sarcasm>who needs links anyway? </sarcasm> - is there a way to directly have the underlying sharepoint as a tab instead having this poor troublesome sharepoint reflection of teams?
Because in sharepoint the links work like they always did.

But of course you can't add a link to the underlying sharepoint w/o the troubles mentionted in the posts. So the cat is bites it's tail.

Downloading an url  file to search it in the documents is not an option. Not in this century.

@Szewczyk

Realizing I'm late to the conversation, I had this requirement today and stumbled on this thread.  While reading, I recalled that MS recently added Lists as a TAB in Teams.  I created a "Links" list in the SharePoint Site, added a "URL or Picture" column and a "Text"column for descrition.  Then added the list as a TAB in the Teams Channel of choice.  Click the TAB the links will be displayed.  Clicking them simply opened the document.  Granted, I tried this with an Office doc and it opened in the browser, but it satisifed my immediate needs.

Good Luck.
