Is there a way to configure email notifications to team members when a file is uploaded to a channel?  Our emergency and crisis medical departments post patient admits/discharges after shift pass downs and we upload these schedules to the Team channels.  We do not want to be sending emails with patient information so a simple notification that a new file was uploaded would be very beneficial.

Yes, go to the underlying SharePoint site document library, then create a "Flow" on the library and you can pretty much do whatever you want using Flow. So condition out when a file is uploaded then do x. Etc.

Because Teams uses SharePoint as it's underlying document repository it opens up a lot of functionality. You could even do push notifications to a mobile device, e-mail, post to Teams. Pretty much anything when a condition is met.

The best bet would be to use a flow to post into the channel when a file is added, but you could also send an email etc as well. It would look something like ...

This solution worked great.  I also realized I could setup Alerts because Teams runs on SharePoint.

Yeah, but you might be a little more limited on when to get an alert because of folder structure. But if it doesn't matter where the file lives it would work just fine and I prefer those alerts myself, didn't even think of that, I was thinking because you said a "channel" so got to have a way to filter to that channel's folder for alerting and flow should be able to provide that via conditions. But if just a file anywhere in the team is needed alert will work great!

Christopher, I guess there is no simpler way for a Team to get an alert from within TEAMS is there? I guess the in-app notifications are just limited to posts? For anything outside of that you need to set up a flow?

Hi Andrew. The simplest way to get a notification is to use Teams the way it is designed.
1. Upload the document to the Teams files.
2. Start a discussion about the document.
At-mention the channel or Team, whichever is more appropriate.

The members of the team need to be using Teams on their desktop and ideally, on their mobile too. This activity sounds like it's worthy of its own channel. Members should follow the channel where the document is being uploaded to. They will get a notification about the document.
Better still, they can discuss the document by responding to the conversation threads in Teams.
In my opinion, if your trying to create an email alert to get a notification for a document in Teams, you might be missing the point.
Hi Darrell, thanks for that. Ah no I wasn't trying to create an email alert, just a automatic channel notification from within TEAMS when a file is uploaded to the files tab? But as you suggested maybe the best way to is to start a discussion about the document in the channel, that way i can give it context. I guess if people just received a channel notification that a file had been uploaded, there is no context or explanation which isn't ideal!

I tried this but it only sent an email to me.  I was hoping to set up a notification to all members of the Team.  Is this possible?

Thanks!

@Darrell Webster how do I start a discussion on the document? do you mean to just on the conversation channel @mention to the ones I want and tell them: "hey, guys I've just uploaded a document in the files section of this channel? Thanks in advance.

You can upload a doc in the channel conversation ( will be stored in files tab )
From here you can reply to this as any other message! So if you @mention here people will be taken to the document thread where they see the doc!
This conversation can also be made while working on it! Open it in teams and press that chat icon up to the right!
Yeah, as Adam said, there is 3 ways to get the "Banner" style Icon in a thread.

1. Upload using attach icon, this will upload it to the current channel, then you can add some extra comments where you can @mention people, then when it posts you get a color banner look of the files in the conversation.

2. Same as 1, but on an existing file you can use attach icon and "Browse Teams and channels" to select an existing file which will also add the color banner look.

3. Open a document using Teams and click the "Start Conversation" button on the top right of the Teams window. This will start a new conversation in the channel with the color banner.
Awesome, thank you guys.
How to get a team notify when a file is changed?
That didn't help me, eglpDude
