Hi,

My colleague has accidentally deleted a shared OneNote Notebook off Teams. The notebook is still available in the desktop application, and via SharePoint, however we'd really like it to appear on Teams again (next to Planner, Wiki etc.).

How do I go about doing this?

Hi @Jonni Slater,

It sounds a bit like you only removed the notebook from the tabs.

Go to the channel in the team.

Click on the +

Select OneNote

Find the notebook.

and then you shoudl be ok.

Yeap, agree with Pieter...adding again a OneNote tab should do the trick

Appreciate your answers, but I remain unclear how to find the existing notebook.

Our OneNote file was under the General Channel in a "staff-type" team. It was the only "Notes" tab and now is gone. I have been using OneNote2016 to edit the file for a few days. We are very new to OneNote, Teams and has no experience with Sharepoint or OneDrive. User, not an admin.

When I launch a new OneNote tab in the channel, it asks for a tab name. I assume I should enter the existing name of the file to restore but get a "format of the name is incorrect" error. (Unfortunately, the existing name has an ampersand in the name.) I copied the exact name as shown in the sharepoint URL, with %26 for the ampersand, but it generates the name error.  Any other name creates a new notebook.  Am I missing the way to "find" an existing file? Is there a setting in ON2016 or at Sharepoint to restore the link in Teams?

  1. Delete the old tab
  2. In SharePoint, locate the OneNote asset > select and copy link (do not open!)
  3. Create new Website tab in Teams > paste OneNote asset link and name new tab whatever you like

Pretty much functions similarly, but puts users at the root of the Notebook instead of matching channel to OneNote section.

Hope that helps.

An interesting workaround that works ... thx.  I had since recreated the files as an actual new One Note file.
