Windows Server AMA: Developing Hybrid Cloud and Azure Skills for Windows Server Professionals
Event details
We are very excited to announce a Windows Server ‘Ask Microsoft Anything’ (AMA) event to discuss tips for diving into cloud learning for Windows Server professionals. We’ll discuss certifications, answer your questions about training available through Microsoft, and share tips on managing skill transitions for yourself and your team.
The AMA will take place on Tuesday, January 31 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. PT in the comment section below. Prior to the event, you can watch this video to get Microsoft experts’ point of view on certifications and other training topics.
Q & A will be available with Microsoft Azure Technical Trainers, the MS Learn team, and your favorite Windows Server and Azure experts.
Speakers:
Vinicius Apolinario – Sr. Cloud Advocate, Azure
Julio Cruz – Azure Technical Trainer
Thomas Maurer Chief Evangelist, Azure Hybrid
Orin Thomas – Principal Cloud Advocate, Azure
An AMA is a live online event similar to an “Ask Me Anything” on Reddit. This AMA gives you the opportunity to connect with members of Microsoft trainers and the product engineering team who will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to feedback.
Feel free to post your questions about training and certification topics anytime in the comments below beforehand, if it fits your schedule or time zone better, though questions will not be answered until the live hour.
- 0rinThomasIron ContributorWhat's a Windows Server / Windows Server Hybrid / Windows Server on Azure topic you'd like to see more resources published on?
- 0rinThomasIron ContributorBesides an in-depth learning path on WINS of course.
- SteskaljSteel ContributorHow to run AKS on-prem without Azure. This is a complex topic and every time you try to find documentation on it, it ends up pointing to using Azure or having an Azure subscription.
- Tech23Brass ContributorI know Microsoft Learning has some stuff on what a Windows server is and what it does. I liked back in the MCSE days how there was stuff to cover the fundamentals and there were good books. Also Microsoft Virtual Academy had some great stuff. To brush up on some server fundamentals would be nice to see more stuff from Microsoft Learning.

Similar to Microsoft Virtual Academy, you can check out our Microsoft Virtual Training Days (VTDs): Microsoft Virtual Training Days - Azure
VTDs are: Pre-recorded large-scale training to support skilling. Always on training opportunity with direction for content, audience and agenda.
- 0rinThomasIron ContributorHave you got or are you planning to get the Windows Server Hybrid Admin Associate certification? If you have it, have you done your renewal yet (I did my renewal last week!)
- SteskaljSteel ContributorI did my renewal back in September. I love the open book format.
- 0rinThomasIron ContributorWhat resources do you prefer to use when studying for a new certification or learning a new technology? Books, learn.microsoft.com training modules, training videos, other tools?
- Hytens-emmmanuelCopper ContributorAll that's applicable and that will give me in-depth understanding beyond preparation for Certification Exam Success.
- 0rinThomasIron ContributorI found some great interactive labs for WSHAA the other day - sort of click through versions of what you would do hands on in an official class. https://t.co/gE4Lg3HNMg

- ViniciusApolinarioMicrosoftOne of the topics for the Windows Server Hybrid certifications is containers. As someone managing Windows Server, is this a topic you're comfortable with? What are your suggestions for us to improve about content on this area?
- EricStarkerCommunity ManagerThanks for joining us for this Windows Server AMA! The event is now over, but we'll be posting a summary of the questions and answers here soon.
- lannatehMicrosoftBesides Tech Community, where do you usually go to find study, training, and learning resources for Microsoft Certifications like AZ-800/801? Where would you like Microsoft to publish official learning content for the most convenient experience?
- 0rinThomasIron ContributorHere's is the study guide I wrote for AZ-800 - has all the links to relevant documentation, books, videos, training modules etc https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/itops-talk-blog/az-800-study-guide-administering-windows-server-hybrid-core/ba-p/2736091?WT.mc_id=modinfra-39512-orthomas

- On Microsoft Learn platform https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/training/ So you can add it to your profile to do your study on-demand.
- 0rinThomasIron ContributorWhat was the first certification exam you took? Mine was the NT4 MCSE "Networking Essentials" exam (almost a quarter of a century ago!!)
- NedPyleMicrosoft
Windows 2000. By the time I took Windows Server 2003 I was an MS employee and taking them was part of my job requirements in MS Support. Even the beta exams that had 850 questions
:'(
- LDandridgeCopper ContributorThose were evil Ned. Just part of the fun of being a 'blue'.
- ViniciusApolinarioMicrosoftMine was the Windows 2000 Server one and I failed it. 😞 The next exam I took was already the Windows Server 2003, and I passed. 🙂
- Julio_CruzMicrosoftMe too, it was Windows Server 2000! 😃
- Rick ClausMicrosoftDos 6.22 and Windows 3.11 for support professionals... Followed up by NT3.51
- SteskaljSteel ContributorIs there going to be an equivalent to the MCSE for Windows Server? Something like Windows Server Hybrid Solution Architect cert?
- 0rinThomasIron ContributorNothing to announce at the moment, but it's something that has certainly been thought about as WSHAA focuses on implementation and it has been speculated that it might be nice to have something around architecting hybrid.
- SteskaljSteel ContributorMaybe have a cert on how to design and deploy Azure Stack HCI. That way it could mimic the az-104 and az-305.
- LDandridgeCopper ContributorFor a new Azure Admin what's the best path for both learning functionality for daily work, and a certification path?
- Julio_CruzMicrosoft
If you are new to Azure, you should start with AZ900 Azure Fundamentals, and then continue to the AZ-140 Azure Administrator

Check out our official Azure Skills Navigator ramp up guide for Azure System Administrators. It lays out the best learning path and resources for this role: https://aka.ms/SysAdminGuide
- LDandridgeCopper ContributorThank you!!
- ViniciusApolinarioMicrosoftTo me it comes down to applying what you're learning from books, websites, videos, etc. to tests on labs and eventually to a real environment. You can know about a bunch of stuff in theory, but (in my opinion) nothing beats doing something for real. Now, also in my experience, the real learning comes when you have to teach a tech to someone else. 🙂
