Not that long ago, we announced Windows Hello FIDO2 certification and shared updates on our passwordless platform with Windows 10, version 1903. We hope this give you, IT professionals, confidence that we are hard at work creating the building blocks you need to move toward a world without passwords.

Today, Alex Simons, Corporate VP of Program Management of the Microsoft Identity Division, announced you can go passwordless with the Public Preview of FIDO2 security keys support in Azure Active Directory. This is a very exciting step—it means that you can now try out passwordless capabilities that allow you to roll out, at scale, FIDO2 security keys that will authenticate a user on a Windows 10 Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) joined device.

To try out these new capabilities you would obviously need a FIDO2-compatible security key. To that end. we have set up a program with our partner ecosystem to test the security keys available on the market today and make sure they are compatible with this type of Microsoft implementation. For a list of fully certified FIDO2 security keys that have been tested, visit our partner page.

So, why not give passwordless authentication with FIDO2 security keys a try today? We are looking for your feedback and are already hard at work to extend FIDO authentication capabilities to hybrid Azure AD joined devices. Stay tuned for an update!
