Windows 10 continues to be adopted rapidly by all types of organizations, and with that adoption Microsoft is working with customers who are adapting existing processes to support a modern servicing methodology which we refer to as Windows as a service . As part of those process changes, customers are implementing key new products and features, such as:

  • Windows AutoPilot , a cloud-driven scenario that enables organizations to move away from imaging and instead focus on transforming new devices so that they are ready for productive use, without IT even needing to touch the device.
  • Windows Analytics Upgrade Readiness, which provides insights into the devices, apps, and drivers being used in the organization. Those insights are then used to drive both the initial Windows 10 deployment, as well as the ongoing feature update deployment process.
  • System Center Configuration Manager Current Branch, which implements a simple servicing mechanism to ensure support for the latest Windows 10 feature updates.
  • Office 365 ProPlus , which implements a servicing process that is aligned with Windows 10 and System Center Configuration Manager to ensure these key products can together be kept always up to date.

Many customers have already made significant progress implementing these changes, including MARS , Kimberly-Clark , and Accenture . To help some early enterprise adopters that are still finishing their transition to Windows as a service, we will be providing a supplemental servicing package for Windows 10, version 1511 for an additional six months, until April 2018, providing updates to address critical and important security issues that arise during that time. These updates will be available to anyone using Windows 10 Enterprise, version 1511 or Windows 10 Education, version 1511. Updates will be offered via all normal channels, including Windows Update, WSUS, Configuration Manager, and the Windows Update catalog.
