OneDrive wanted me to set up backing up to OneDrive, again
When I logged into my Windows 11 machine here at home, I was presented with a full-window popup from OneDrive. It wanted me to set up backing up my important folders like Documents, Photos, etc. I have been paying for Microsoft 365 Family Edition for at least 10 years, so I've done this already. But I thought I'd go ahead and do it again. But now I'm wondering, might I have accidentally created a second schedule job to back up my Documents, Photos, etc. to OneDrive, duplicating what I've done when I set those things up years ago?39Views0likes0CommentsI'm not seeing what I expected to see with Windows Application Packaging
I'm following along in a YouTube video I found that covers MSIX. I've created a simple WPF app in .NET 9, which is just a Hello World app. Then I added the Windows Application Packaging project. Or at least that's what I'm trying to do. What I got was two new projects added to my VS solution. Given my app's name is MyApp, one of the new projects is called MyAppInstaller, and the other new app is called "MyAppInstaller (Package)". I was expecting to see only the MyAppInstaller project added. I'm wondering if I've done something wrong.91Views0likes1CommentRe: Why doesn't OneDrive ever finish syncing?
Hello MrCharlesJenkins thank you for responding! I tried to find the Help & Settings so I could see "View sync problems", but I didn't see it. I must be going at it the wrong way. How do I get to it? BTW, I am using Windows 11 Professional80Views0likes1CommentWhy doesn't OneDrive ever finish syncing?
I've got a Microsoft 365 Family Edition license, so it comes with 1TB of storage. I've used 49.6 GB of that storage. Every time I log into my Windows machines (both a desktop and a laptop), the white cloud indicates that it is synchronizing files. And that goes on for hours and hours and hours. Frankly, I can't believe it would take that long to finish syncing files when I haven't used that much. So, what in heck is going on? Why doesn't OneDrive ever finish?168Views0likes3CommentsWhat steps can I take, given Microsoft Defender's report?
In September I posted a question in this forum, I'm not sure what to do with the data breaches Microsoft Defender reports. I've proceeded to use the "Take Action" button. After clicking on that button Microsoft Defender took me to its report on what it found. It listed a website I've never heard of before. I use a password manager, so I double checked there. I don't have an account on that website. The information it has there is about half correct, a quarter of the information is wrong, and the rest is out of date by 10+ years. There were a few other websites that it reported on. Some I can manage, as Microsoft Defender gave me enough information about them. Others are not helpful, as Defender just says, "From an unknown source", then the rest of the information isn't helpful at all. Anyway, my concern is that this information is out there especially with the first reported incident, and I don't see how I can stop this spurious website from displaying it. And I certainly have no idea how it got it in the first place. So, what can I do about some website that got this information from somewhere and displays it for whoever to see it?I'm not sure what to do with the data breaches Microsoft Defender reports
First of all, I realize that this forum may not be the right place for me to post any question about Microsoft Defender. If this is the wrong place, I apologize and please direct me to the correct place. I have a Microsoft 365 for Family license, so I thought this forum might be the correct place for me to post a question about Microsoft Defender. When I logged into my Windows profile on my Windows 11 desktop, I was presented with a popup from Microsoft Defender. It asked me to fill out some additional information, which I did. At the end of that process, it told me that I was listed in some data breaches, that it found on "the dark web". But many of them (there aren't a lot of them) have unhelpful information. For example, one reads: "Compromised info found on Aug 19, 2022 From an unknown source" Then it lists my email address and a glyph for an email password. But the bottom line is I don't know what to do with this. There's a button that's labeled, "Take action", but I'm not comfortable clicking on a button when it appears to me like Microsoft Defender hasn't a clue as to what to do about it. So, what should I do with this ambivalent information?Re: There is an error in the GitHub Foundations course
Oh, this is hilarious!!!! Julian, you posted a link to the question I POSTED ON GITHUB!!!!!!! That is MY POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As you can see, no one has answered it there, too.357Views0likes0CommentsRe: There is an error in the GitHub Foundations course
I don't get that at all. The course is on Microsoft Learn: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/collections/o1njfe825p602p Since the course is on Microsoft Learn, then I presume they are aware of, and helped create any repository they use on GitHub. Therefore, it doesn't follow that I should only go to GitHub seeking help. Or that it should necessarily occur to me that I must go to GitHub seeking help. If this course is strictly and only on GitHub, then why in heck does it start here on Microsoft Learn??????? That is EXTREMELY CONFUSING TO ME!!!!!!! Microsoft, if you chose to start a course here, but then absolve yourself of any and all assistance to people trying to learn how to use what only exists on GitHub, PLEASE REMOVE IT FROM MICROSOFT LEARN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!407Views0likes2CommentsThere is an error in the GitHub Foundations course
I started going through the GitHub Foundations Microsoft Learn course a few weeks ago. I got to Module 7, "Communicate effectively on GitHub using Markdown". I was in Unit 3, "Communicate using Markdown", when the instructions told me to go to a tab on the page named, "File changed". There is no tab on that page named "File changed". It's been a week trying to find out what the answer is to my problem. Please, help me to continue doing this course!!!Solved543Views0likes4CommentsWhy does MS Teams struggle with 200 users?
At work we used Microsoft 365 for Business. As a consequence, we also use Microsoft Teams for Business (I think that's the correct name). I work as a software engineer. The IT group is about 200 people, which includes all the developers, IT Admins, DBAs, etc. For a couple years we've been using MS Teams for our group's meetings. We also use MS Teams for agency wide meetings, which normally brings in 500+ people. However, for a while now (I don't know how long, because the IT group doesn't share that information) when we've had meetings involving all of IT, sometimes people loose connection and get dropped. They reconnect to rejoin the meeting, but it has become a problem. So much so that the agency is considering dropping MS Teams entirely, in favor of Zoom. Personally, I like MS Teams more than Zoom, but clearly this issue must be resolved. I had thought that Microsoft had made MS Teams capable handling thousands of simultaneous users in a meeting. So, what gives? Why is MS Teams behaving so poorly?365Views0likes0CommentsIs it possible for the dotnet command to not publish some files?
I've received an unusual request from some users of an http://asp.net/ Core app. I'm using the dotnet command to clean and publish the solution, to a server in our network, using a GitHub self-hosted runner on another server. They don't want the dotnet command to publish the "appsettings.json" and "appsettings.Developer.json" files. Is there a way of preventing dotnet from publishing some files? Here's the code snippet I'm using from the YAML file: - name: Clean build run: dotnet clean $env:Solution_Name - name: Publish app run: dotnet publish -c Release $env:Solution_Name /p:PublishProfile=VaccineRegDevProfile308Views0likes0CommentsRe: I have several questions involving WSL and Docker Desktop
Alabamatom1963 some of that works. For example, when I issue the command docker --version in a PowerShell prompt, I get an answer of Docker version 26.0.0, build 2ae903e However, when I issue the command wsl -l -v I get the response: Windows Subsystem for Linux has no installed distributions. Distributions can be installed by visiting the Microsoft Store: https://aka.ms/wslstore935Views0likes1CommentI have several questions involving WSL and Docker Desktop
Today I discovered that the SQL Server Developer Edition database I created, is no longer available, because the machine it was on has died. Fortunately, I saved a full backup of the database to my OneDrive, so I should be able to restore it. A couple months ago I thought I'd give Docker Desktop a try, however because I've been developing in Windows for a long time, I wanted to get a Windows container going in Docker Desktop. I ran into problems, then other priorities came long, etc. Bottom line, I'm only now getting back to it. I've tried to determine what version of WSL I have installed, following instructions I https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install#check-which-version-of-wsl-you-are-running, but that didn't work. Instead, I got this error: Windows Subsystem for Linux has no installed distributions. Distributions can be installed by visiting the Microsoft Store: https://aka.ms/wslstore So, I went to the Microsoft Store and was shown two different WSL 2 versions. Which do I get? But I'm wondering, do I need to install Ubuntu into a WSL 2 instance? I thought that was installed automatically when I installed Docker Desktop. But I don't understand why I get the error I do. Bottom line, I don't understand how to use WSL 2, Docker Desktop, the Ubuntu distro, etc., because I'm performing searches and getting bits and pieces out of order. I'm lost and very confused. I'd appreciate some direction, please.1.1KViews0likes4CommentsHow do I install new versions of .NET Framework onto a TFS build server?
At work we're still using TFS 2015. The current version of .NET Framework on the build server is .NET 4.5.2. Six months ago, I tried to install .NET 4.7.2 onto the build server, but that wouldn't work. It complained, saying that I had .NET Framework 4.8 on the server. Either I'd have to forget it and uninstall 4.8 to get 4.7.2 installed on it. (Then I presume install 4.8 again, after putting on 4.7.2.) Other circumstances changed, so I didn't have to follow that any further at that time. However, that has changed today. Some developers are finally moving away from .NET 4.5.2, to go to 4.7.2. And they need me to install 4.7.2 onto the build server. So, how do uninstall .NET 4.8 from the build server so I can get .NET 4.7.2 installed on our TFS 2015 build server? Then later put .NET 4.8 back onto the build server?2.6KViews2likes0CommentsRe: Looking for recommendations for hosting ASP.NET web apps
Hello Thomas Glaser, I am so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Yes, I've moved my website to InterServer. They're OK, but I must admit they're not as much as I had hoped they would be. For now, they'll do. I've got other balls in the air at this time, so looking for something else isn't going to happen. At least not for a few months.803Views0likes2CommentsRe: A recent change to OneDrive is BLOCKING me from accessing my Quicken data!!!
I do have the backups from the normal operation of backing up. What you say is odd, though, because Intuit/Quicken always offer using Dropbox. At least to my way of thinking why would they, at the same time, both recommend using Dropbox and not recommend using any cloud storage? That doesn't make any sense to me.1.4KViews0likes0CommentsA recent change to OneDrive is BLOCKING me from accessing my Quicken data!!!
Last weekend I suddenly was no longer able to access anything in my Quicken account. Furthermore, I could no longer log into Quicken's community forum! But without a doubt the worst thing is no longer able to access to access my Quicken data at all!! I store my Quicken data in my OneDrive. (I am using Microsoft 365 for Families Edition. Through a lot of work, I've asked Quicken for help with this. They inform me that this is caused to a https://community.quicken.com/discussion/7941723/new-10-23-23-data-file-passwords-not-working-after-qwin-update/p1?new=1. Why in heck would you cause a mess like this to block users from accessing their financial data???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Solved1.6KViews0likes3CommentsHow do I restrict the files synced?
I have a Microsoft 365 for Family license and use OneDrive with OneNote. I keep important notes in my OneNote, some of which are related to work. On my work laptop I have added my OneDrive with my OneNote, so I can get to the notes I've saved there. This morning, when I logged into the work laptop it started syncing about 2 GB of files to the laptop. (At least I think it was syncing from my personal OneDrive to the laptop. I'm not sure what direction OneDrive syncs from.) I had to pause it for 8 hours because that laptop doesn't have a lot of free disk space. 2 GB would seriously hamper the functionality of that old laptop. I need access to the notes I've said in OneNote, and of course OneDrive will want to save other things to my work laptop which come off of my home desktop and personal laptop, but I want to restrict what's put on the work laptop, due to its low disk space. I'm sure there's some way of doing that on my work laptop, without affecting the same settings on my home desktop or personal laptop. How do I do that, please?Solved10KViews0likes1Comment
