Force Teams desktop client update
Hi all, I've recieved several questions about this and I'm also seeing too many topics about it here in the community. We all know about the update process for Teams as described here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/teams-client-update and here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/update-microsoft-teams-535a8e4b-45f0-4f6c-8b3d-91bca7a51db1 for example. But sometimes you're just stuck as nothing happens when trying to clear the cache, reset the app, update and/or reinstall. This is an easy way to force an update of the desktop app (even though most updates happen backend). 1. Look for the latest version seen, one place to do it https://whatpulse.org/app/microsoft-teams 2. Copy the version number and paste it in the link below and hit enter. In my example, and at the time of writing, I'm updating to version 1.3.00.33971. https://statics.teams.cdn.office.net/production-windows-x64/1.3.00.33971/Teams_windows_x64.exe I've been struggling with this myself some time ago knowing features being released backend but didn't show up in my desktop client. After this process the client was updated and the features appeared for me as well. Hope this will prevent some of you going mad.Solved160KViews4likes36CommentsChanges to meeting recordings - saved to OneDrive and SharePoint instead of Stream.
Hello! This is a rather big change and something I just want to send a heads up to all. Obviously it's posted in Message center(MC222640)and this is a copy/paste of the information for those who don't have access. -------------- We’re changing the storage for new Teams meeting recordings to be stored on, and served from, OneDrive and SharePoint (ODSP) - instead of Microsoft Stream (Classic). Customers are able to opt in, opt out, or take no action with regard to these changes. This change will apply to customers who either opt in or take no action following this announcement. Key points: Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID:67138 Timing: Early October (October 5, 2020)– You can enable the Teams Meeting policy to have meeting recordings saved to OneDrive and SharePoint instead of Microsoft Stream (Classic) End of October (October 31, 2020)– Meeting recordings in OneDrive and SharePoint will have support for English captions via the Teams transcription feature. Early to mid-November (Rolling out between November 1-15, 2020)– All new Teams meeting recordings will be saved to OneDrive and SharePoint unless you delay this change by modifying your organization’s Teams Meeting policies and explicitly setting them to “Stream” Q1 2021– No new meeting recordings can be saved to Microsoft Stream (Classic); all customers will automatically have meeting recordings saved to OneDrive and SharePoint even if they’ve changed their Teams meeting policies to Stream” Rollout: Tenant level Control:Admin via PowerShell How this will affect your organization: This change impacts your organization in several ways: New features The move to ODSP immediately unlocks long-awaited features including external and guest sharing, retention policy application (https://docs.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/compliance/apply-retention-labels-automatically), GoLocal support, and BYOK support for customers, with improved transcription quality, speaker attribution, transcript content search, and other features to follow in CY2021. Meeting storage Non-Channel meetings will be stored in the OneDrive of the personwho clicked the record buttonin a special folder labeled “Recordings” – that sits at the top of the recorder’s OneDrive. Channel meetings will be stored in a folderlabeled “Recordings” under a folder named after the channel under the Team’s document library. Permissions All meeting invitees - except for external users – in non-channel meetings will automatically get a shared link to access the meeting recording. External users will need to be explicitly added to the shared list by the meeting organizer or the person that clicked the record button. For Channel meetings, permissions will be inherited from the owners and members list in the channel. Feature gaps The following gaps exist today: Ability to block download of the video by meeting participants Ability to view and edit the transcript in the player, but closed captionswillbe present Non-English language transcripts/captions Variable playback speed in video player Transcript timeframe search (e.g., to find a specific point in time when something was discussed) What you need to do to prepare: Customers are able to opt in, opt out, or take no action with regard to these changes. Changes in this communication will apply to customers who either opt in or take no action. Tenant admins can opt in or opt out of OneDrive and SharePoint as the Teams meeting recording storage location via a Teams policy in PowerShell. Additionally, customers who wish to have captions for their meetings will need to enable transcript recording in Teams. In Q1 CY2021, saving Teams meeting recordings to Microsoft Stream (Classic) will no longer be allowed. Precise dates will be communicated in a subsequent post. It's happening a lot within Teams now! Here's another great addition I know users in my org. have been waiting for. This is copied from Message center and attached for those of you with no access. Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 66459. When this will happen We will begin rolling this out mid-September and expect the rollout to be complete in mid-October. There are two areas of improvement: 1. Download point changed from roster view The Teams meeting organizer can download the Attendance Report from the meeting chat once the meeting is over. Only the meeting organizer will see the Attendance Report. The recording, transcript and participant list will be grouped together in chat if the meeting is recorded. Otherwise, only the participant list will be available in chat. 2. New participant data The report will now include these data points: duration, email address, meeting start time, and meeting title. What you need to do to prepare When we introduced this feature in June, feature was disabled by default. It will remain off by default. We will not change your policy setting; this update will honor your current state, whether that is on or off. You can use a PowerShell cmdlet to turn this feature ON: Set-CsTeamsMeetingPolicy -Identity Global - AllowEngagementReport "Enabled"Simplified way to manage your Teams notification settings
This is so long-awaited I just have to highlight it (at least people in my org. has been confused about them.) "Users will soon be able to configure and customize their Teams notification settings through a newly designed notifications settings section for the Teams desktop app and Teams online. This message is associated with Microsoft 365Roadmap ID65636. When this will happen We will begin rolling this out in early September 2020; we expect the rollout to be complete in mid-September. How this will affect your organization: Your end users will be able to configure notification settings through a simplified global notification settings page. They will also be able to choose from any two teams and channel notification presets or they can customize their channel notification settings. The new settings can be accessed by selecting the profile picture at the top right corner of Teams, and then selectingSettings>Notifications."4.9KViews2likes1CommentTeams free version users are now able to schedule meetings and send out invitations in advance

Hey! Anyone else having issues with the Teams meeting policy for participants and guests not taking effect or just not working as supposed to? I am doing some testing and ran into an issue with these settings. That is, let anonymous start a meeting and auto admit everyone (this was assigned to a meeting organizer last night). It seems to be OK (yay) as the organizer gets this prompt (the guest in this case is a gmail.com user) But when joining the meeting as organizer it's not started. The anon guest(s) is actually waiting in the lobby. And from the gmail.com users Teams session it's not started either, just waiting "we'll let people know.." Tried in desktop and web, same behavior. In general I get the feeling that the settings for a separate meeting (the meeting options that a end-user can set per meeting) doesn't work either, or at least it's buggy. Any feedback appreciated. Hello! I'm targeting the Microsoft employees with this post. Would you mind confirming the quote and is there any official information?
