Fault Tolerance and DR in Windows 365
I have been trying to get some answers to how Windows365 handles fault tolerance and DR. What I have found and been told so far is that if there are compute and/or storage issues, the resources will move to another zone and that is great for the compute and storage portion. What I cannot find any answers on is how is the Azure Network connection (OPNC) failure is handled. Since the ANC connects the Cloud PC to our Azure VNet where our Domain Controllers are in order for the employee to authenticate and login to their Cloud PC what happens when that VNet has a problem? What if the East US Microsoft region has an outage or disaster? Does anyone have any answers on what would need to be done to get access restored to the massive number of Cloud PC's we have? It seems the only answers so far have been to create a new ANC in a new region to apply the provisioning policy and it will re-provision the Cloud PC's. This is a horrible FT/DR solution and would take quite some time to provision/reprovision 1,000 CPC's. Is this the only option to recover from a Region disruption or are there other options? I am to the point where I am creating a new host pool and the host creation join to AD domain failed and when I logged into the VM the reason it failed is because there is no DNS on the NIC in the VM. I checked and the VNet it is using has custom DNS set but the VM is not using it so there is no way to communicate properly with the domain. Has anyone seen this and what did you do to get the hosts to use the VNet DNS? ** UPDATE -- So I booted the host pool VM again this morning and logged into it and eventhough it isn't showing DNS when I do ipconfig /all I can ping the FQDN of the DC. So DNS is there just not showing. So I am more confused now as to what has changed. I tried to manually join the computer to the domain yesterday and it failed because it couldn't find it and I used the FQDN of the domain. I am going to try to create a new host and see if whatever the issue was yesterday is no longer there and it creates and joins it properly. Any other reasons anyone can think of why the join to AD extension would fail. The log doesn't clearly define the problem from what I can see. I am using a domain admin credential to join them and placing in an OU and the path is correct. ** Another Update-- So I created a VM from the Image and it looks like when it boots it is locked on the 'Please wait for the windows module installer' screen upon logon. So I think that must be the issue. If the host creation can't get to a desktop to run the extension then that would explain the failure. Will make sure that I reboot a couple of times before SYSPREP and make into an image to deploy. Will update once that is done. ** More updates-- I created a new VM from the previous image. Logged in and made sure that all windows updates and any other updates had run and then rebooted 2 times with 10 minutes between reboots then logged in and did sysprep and then made a new image. There was no 'please wait for windows module installer' on the screen after the reboots but when I create hosts from that image I can see on the diagnostics screen that it is showing the 'please wait for windows module installer' and will now fail to join again. Does anyone know why this is happening and any way to fix this?1.4KViews0likes2CommentsRe: New Hosts added to host pool are not using VNet Custom DNS
It is in the same VNet but a different subnet. I can place a non-WVD host in that subnet and it can talk to the DC just fine. The issue is that the host creation process for whatever reason is not using the DNS servers on the VNet.1.3KViews0likes0CommentsConnecting with latest AVD environment with Powershell
We have been using a third party vendor to supply AVD Classic pools and I have had no issues accessing it via Powershell but it seems that the latest AVD doesn't display any RDSTenant when using get-rdstenant. For those of you using Powershell to connect to your RDS environment, how are you doing it? What commands are you using to connect in for things like seeing the properties, adding/removing users to pools and applications, etc.? Thanks, Jason933Views0likes1CommentRe: Team behaves oddly
We experience lots of problems with the Teams desktop app. The web version works fine in AVD but the desktop version causes our users lots of problems. The biggest of which is that it won't load and errors when users try to run it after they login. Usually, clearing the %appdata%\microsoft\teams folder and having them try again fixes it but it is a pain in the butt.788Views0likes1CommentIs anyone seeing random reboots of AVD VM's with no bugcheck events and no dump files?
We have 9 AVD pools in use with approximately 50 D16sv3 and D16dsv4 hosts and each week we may have 2 days where a host just reboots in the middle of the day and there are no bugcheck events or any helpful events logged and no dump file is produced. When I check the azure activity log it shows a health event that a reboot was triggered from inside the virtual machine. None of the users have the ability to reboot and there would be an event showing the reboot by a logged in user or remote user but there are none. Has anyone seen this?Solved1.8KViews0likes3Comments- 6.7KViews0likes0Comments
FSLogix service stopping randomly
Is anyone else experiencing FSLogix app service stopping on WVD hosts randomly? We have many scale sets and during the day the FSLogix app service stops and my management agent starts it but no apparent reason for the stop. Does anyone have any idea what is causing it? Thanks, Jason6.6KViews0likes3CommentsFSLogix Services changing to Disabled on Provison of new VM and Reboot of Existing VM's
So it seems that although the image I am using to create the pool hosts has the (2) fslogix service set to auto start sometimes when I create a new VM from the image it boots with the services set to disabled. I have also manually switched them to auto start and started them and then a reboot seems to switch them back. Has anyone seen this behavior? I have some remediation checks in place but it is frustrating.760Views0likes0CommentsTemplate image isn't showing upgrade ready
We use template images for our WVD pools and they are currently 1909 and are not showing that an upgrade is available. Can't use the upgrade assistant since it is Windows 10 Enterprise. How are people that are upgrading able to do that?483Views0likes0CommentsRe: FSLogix - Profile Issues
DP305Sure, we have a D16sv3 file server provisioned and a profiles$ share provisioned from it to use with FSLogix. We have the VM regkeys set for FSLogix like the screenshot included on this reply. We do see the occasional issue with corrupted profiles but with almost 200 daily users that is going to happen. Sometimes the printers don't load but a logoff and logon fixes that. There are definitely quirks and we are learning what they are so we can advise helpdesk and the end-user about them. I still don't think this WVD environment is 100% reliable due to its new nature and trying to use a desktop OS to house multiple users but the cost and ease of use is hard to beat.14KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Multiple monitors problem
Yann96What David is referring to in the link he provided is that you can right-click on the desktop resource from the RD Client and click 'Settings' then on the right side make sure that 'Use multiple displays' is on and the dispays you want to use is selected.5.3KViews0likes1Comment
