Re: Copying OneNote Files from/to OneDrive and SharePoint
It's not recommended by Microsoft but I've copied OneNote files from OneDrive to SharePoint, went to the SharePoint folder, renamed the OneNote file, clicked on the newly copied newly renamed OneNote file and it opened in OneNote for the Web. Then I clicked on "Editing" in the upper right, then clicked on "Open in Desktop App" and it synced with and made it available in the Desktop App. As I mentioned, it's not recommended by Microsoft, but I haven't had any issues.7.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
You can export your "active" PST into an "archive" PST and clean up your active PST. An easy way to get rid of large emails in your active PST is to search for emails with attachments. As long as Outlook still allows PST, you'll be able to open any of the active or archive PSTs you create. To export go to File/Open&Export/Import-Export/Export to a file/Outlook Data File (.pst)/ Click on the very top folder in the "folder list to export from." Don't forget to check "Include Subfolders".3.2KViews0likes2CommentsNew Outlook for Windows
Will the "New Outlook for Windows (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/outlook/outlook-for-windows)" replace Desktop Outlook that is part of the Office Suite and several Office Personal and Business Subscriptions, or is it only replacing the Mail and Calendar App along with the People App that come pre-installed on Windows 10. My understanding is "New Outlook for Windows" is scheduled to become the default, and possibly only, Windows Mail App by Microsoft starting at the end December of 2024?Solved964Views0likes1CommentRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
HiTeresa_Cyrus, Do you know if managerial decision makers in the New Outlook development team monitor this thread? If not, do you know how we, as a community, can encourage them to do that? Thanks much, JayFMSTechComm5KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
One of the greatest features of Outlook Desktop from Office365 is that you can open an email, update the subject line, close the email with the "X", and click save. We've all gotten emails from people who reply to old threads to send you a new email where the subject has nothing to do with the content of the new email. We've also gotten emails from people who type a subject of "Question" or "Update", with no context. For compliance searches and email organizing, being able to edit Subject Lines is vital. I don't know if the New Outlook for Windows allows this because I'm afraid to install it but, if it's not able, it's a deal killer.5.1KViews1like2CommentsRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
There is an error in a Microsoft instruction page discussing how to disable the "Try New Outlook" Toggle. The link is: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/clients-and-mobile-in-exchange-online/outlook-on-the-web/enable-disable-employee-access-new-outlook#us-the-registry-to-enable-or-disable-the-new-outlook-toggle-in-outlook-desktop and the error is in the Registry Dword. It says to set it to 1 to enable the toggle and to 0 to enable it. That is backwards. It must be set to 1 to disable the "Try New Outlook" toggle in Outlook Desktop. You also have to reboot after you change a registry setting. There is a Message Center Notification referencing the erroneous web page above: https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/home?ref=MessageCenter/:/messages/MC676298 These are the entries on the page that show the dWord values are backwards: Copy the one of the following text blocks into Notepad: Enable the New Outlook toggle in Outlook Desktop: This value shows the Try the new Outlook" toggle in Outlook Desktop, if it's available in your update channel: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General] "HideNewOutlookToggle"=dword:00000001 Disable the New Outlook toggle in Outlook Desktop: This value hides the Try the new Outlook" toggle in Outlook Desktop: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General] "HideNewOutlookToggle"=dword:00000000 Save the file as .reg in a location that's easy to find. For example: C:\Data\Disable New Outlook toggle in Outlook Desktop.reg or C:\Data\Enable New Outlook toggle in Outlook Desktop.reg. Run the .reg file and select Yes in the confirmation dialog that appears.16KViews0likes1CommentRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
aasherTeresa_Cyrus, I was able to archive all of my Tasks data by exporting them to a .CSV file. At some point it may truncate the notes field, but I have a task with 1,093 characters and it exported all of the field.17KViews1like1CommentRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024
HiTeresa_Cyrus, Thanks very much for your quick reply, especially clarifying that New and Classic Outlook won't play nicely together. I'm very dependent on lots of esoteric features of Classic Outlook, including Tasks functionality. (Yes, Outlook and I go way back to the late 1990s ;-0). Will New Outlook for Windows be replacing Classic Outlook? If so, do you know if the Tasks functionality will be added to New Outlook for Windows by the 12/31/2024 deadline, or am I looking at a conversion between now and then to whatever new functionality New Outlook supports for Tasks. Thanks again, Steve17KViews0likes1CommentRe: Mail & Calendar Apps Will Be Replaced with New Outlook for Windows December 2024

Back in the early days of Office 365 it was recommended that Global Administrators not use MFA in case they needed to login and didn't have access to their second factor. Recently I was prompted to enable security defaults of MFA for every user: https://Aka.ms/securitydefaultswhich re-directs to: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/fundamentals/concept-fundamentals-security-defaults What's changed such that it's now recommended that Global Admins use MFA? I just discovered to my chagrin that my phone was sending read receipts to any sender who requested one, without asking me if I wanted to send one. This could be one of the causes that my spam has increased greatly since I got a new Android phone to sadly replace my favorite Windows Phone. In Outlook on the Web, under mail options / general / mobile devices, there is a checkbox that says "Don't send read receipts for messages read on devices that use Exchange ActiveSync" I'm not sure if I unchecked this by accident at some point since I started using O365, or if the default is that it's unchecked. It has to be CHECKED in order to stop the read receipts from being sent without notice. (See below:) If, in fact, the default is that it's left unchecked, I think this is a bad idea. At the least, I think it should be a required prompt when a new mobile device is added and set up to sync with an account.Adding Office 365 Exchange Active Sync Account to Android Native Email, Calendar and Contacts Apps
Adding Office 365 Exchange Active Sync Account to Android Native Email, Calendar and Contacts Apps If you are using two-factor authentication in Office 365 (AKA multi-factor authentication) you MUST use an App Password instead of your Office 365 Login Password when creating your Exchange Active Sync account on an Android device. I have 4.2113.1 on my Android Phone running Android Version 9 (Pie) and I see the color categories on my phone calendar, but I cannot set or change a color category. One thing that is very annoying is that if I use the Samsung native calendar app, and make any changes to a calendar entry that has a color category, it will not sync the entry back to Office 365 and subsequently to other devices in my universe. This creates a real issue, because if I update the same entry on my Outlook for Windows Desktop App, it completely overwrites the calendar entry that I previously updated using the Samsung Native App. There are times when I need to use the Samsung native calendar app, and this lack of sync has messed me up several times.11KViews0likes0CommentsRe: One Note Desk Top App

What is the meaning of the file size in parentheses when a file is uploading to OneDrive. For example: FILE.TXT __________________________________________________ UPLOADING 220.9 MB of 299.4 MB (158.5 MB) (italics and red highlighting added by me for emphasis). 299.4 MB is the actual file size on local disk. lester1027- Possibly you can use OneNote on the web until this is resolved. You can get to OneNote on the web via OneNote.com, or going to Microsoft 365 home page and using the menu in the upper left corner to select OneNote, or use OneDrive Consumer or OneDrive for Business and navigate to your notebook and open it by clicking on it.829Views0likes0Comments
