Top Feedback Summary for November 2022
Hello, Insiders! We appreciate your patience between updates for this summary. To break out of the usual royal tense a little, I suffered a back injury shortly after the last update to this list, which caused severe delays to it being updated. As you can see, we’re here to give you one final update to this list for 2022! We’re excited to share that Add option to always open favorites in new tab is Addressed as of today in both our Canary and Dev channels! We’re still rolling this out, so if you don’t see it keep an eye out for it. The team is still working on finalizing search in Collections and double-clicking to close tabs. Some of you may already see these features, however we’re not quite ready to close these out on this list. We hope to have more updates on these two soon! That’s it for this update! We’re taking a short release break for the holidays here in the United States. Major updates to Stable and Beta channels will resume in early January. Do you have a suggestion that you think the team should consider? Head over to the Edge Feedback portal to leave your suggestion and have likeminded people join in on the conversation. Have something you think might be more of a bug? You can send it to us directly through the in-app feedback tool by heading to the…menu >Help and feedback>Send feedbackand include diagnostics. Detailing exactly what you see will ensure that the team understands the issue at hand, and if you include your email address it offers you the ability to receive email updates whenever we take action on your item. Until our next update, happy holidays wherever you are and a happy new year, Insiders! Talk to you in the new year! Hey, Insiders! You may notice with the subject that we have reduced the frequency we are going to survey you about the Insider program; we're aiming for twice a year rather than the four times a year. We felt that we may have been excessive this year and toned it back a bit to reduce any survey fatigue you may feel. We're back with our November survey! We hope you can take the 2 - 3 minutes it should take to complete this survey (unless you want to answer only a few more questions for us). A reminder that our surveys are anonymous, voluntary, and secure. Click here to take the survey on your desktop or mobile device. Thank you for your continued feedback around the program, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts! - The Microsoft Edge Insider Team5.2KViews5likes0CommentsTop Feedback Summary for July 2022
Hello, Insiders! We went through all the feedback in the survey from June and boy do we have a lot to go over! Over the next month, you will see updates from us about what we heard, what we’re doing about it now, and what else we want to change. We are stoked to share the changes coming with you, and looking forward to working with our partners to improve your feedback experience. Now onto the feedback summary! We have a couple of brief updates for you this month. Canary users should see the double-click to close tabs option, however we are still working on a few things before users in China will see this more broadly. We should have more updates next month, so stay tuned! Want to see this feature in your region? Let us know by giving us feedback on the Discussion thread here so the team can see the request. ICYMI – there are updates coming to Collections! We are working out a few things still but Enable search of items in Collections will be coming with these changes, so that status has been updated to Planned for November. You can expect to see more from us on that as we get closer to the end of the year (which in reality is really only two updates away, where did 2022 go?). Lastly, while it is not on this list, we briefly mentioned in the past about the huge context menu and Settings and more (…) lists. We have been working on those changes and have updates to share soon! The team would love to hear feedback from you all once we are able to share the changes we have been working on. That’s it for this update! We will be back in September with our next update and more details on the feedback survey results. Did you know we have a new portal in which you can submit feedback on what changes you want to see? We found out through the survey results this is your second most preferred way of providing the team feedback! You told us that you enjoy the fact one can search to see if their idea is already on theEdge Feedback portal, and that you can post up a new suggestion to get other likeminded people to comment and vote on it. Hello Insiders, We are pleased to announce a new experimental feature: Command Palette, now ready for early testing in Microsoft Edge Canary (starting with version 105). Command Palette makes it possible to quickly access browser management and developer tools features with just one keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+Space.Press the shortcut and get access to tab, bookmark, and collection management features, or developer tools features like simulating a mobile device, clearing the cache memory, and more.If you are familiar with other command palettes like the one in VS Code, or PowerToys, you will feel right at home. This is currently an experiment and needs to be enabled before use. Find out how to enable it, and what you can do with it from our documentation:Run commands via keyboard with Command Palette - Microsoft Edge Development | Microsoft Docs If you have any feedback at all about it, please feel free to drop us a note on our DevTools GitHub repository. Thanks for helping us test this new feature, we hope you like it and are looking forward to improving it based on your feedback! Edit July 1st: THE SURVEY IS NOW CLOSED. THANKS FOR ALL WHO SUBMITTED! Hey there, Insiders! This month, we would love to hear more from you! We ran our Insider survey back in February, and a lot of the frustrations we saw were related to your feedback and how it can be engaged with. If you could take the time to fill out this survey, you can let us know more details directly related to everything feedback. We want to know what you like or dislike about other platforms and what you would like to see from the team directly. This is a longer survey (roughly 15-20 minutes) and is completely anonymous, but there are a lot of insights we can learn from you, so we appreciate you taking the time out of your day to give us your thoughts. (To ensure that feedback is sent through the survey – which is anonymous – this thread is going to be locked down for comments. This is to ensure that your privacy is respected, and we have the feedback for this survey in one space. Thanks for understanding!) The only update we have this month is sharing out the survey! We will leave it open for the next few weeks until the next feedback update is posted, then we will close it. We’ve got the weeks on list updated below, though. That’s it for this update! We will be back in just a few weeks with your next top feedback updates. Did you know we have a new portal in which you can submit feedback on what changes you want to see? Greetings, Insiders! We appreciate your continued patience and support as we worked behind the scenes to provide an update for you all. One of the things we are working on is looking at gathering more details from you, as Insiders, on how we can improve our communications around your top feedback submissions. Keep an eye out for when we publish the survey to gather those insights from you all. There’s a few updates for you this month, so let’s jump into it! We are excited to share that Enable option for downloads to show at the bottom of the screen is moving from Under Review to Alternative Planned! This is a bit of a weird one in which we are going to address this feedback in the form of improving the existing downloads experience. The team wants to hear your continued feedback on this, so be sure to let them know your thoughts via the in-app feedback tool (steps on how to submit are at the end of this post). We have seen feedback across all the platforms we listen on that the context menu is obscenely large. We hear that both the right-click context and the … menus are too long, too wide, and don’t offer any ways to customize. You may have seen some ways we are attempting to address these pain points in our Canary channel. We want to hear from you still, please continue to send us feedback and suggestions on how it can be improved for you! We’re not only adding a new item on, but we’re also marking it as Addressed! We saw increased reports around Print and Print Preview are not available on some sites, and before we could get it added to this list the team addressed it! Definitely let us know if you see other sites that are not giving the print or print preview options in the future. That’s it for this update! We will be back soon with your next top feedback updates. Did you know we have a new portal in which you can submit feedback on what changes you want to see? Hey there, Insiders! It has been a while since we checked in with you on how you feel about how we engage with you, but we're back this month to get your thoughts! We've made further changes to the survey and would love to have your input on what we do! It's only 2-3 minutes of your time (unless you voluntarily decide to provide us more details), anonymous, and absolutely secure. Your responses influence the change that we make in this program; we want to make sure we are meeting your needs. We will review every submission to ensure your voice is heard. 🙂 Click here to take the survey on either your desktop or mobile device. Hello there, Insiders! We hope you were able to have a relaxing transition into the new year, and we’re looking forward to the year ahead. We worked on a couple things while we took a break in our communications over the holidays, so let’s jump into what changes we made in December. This month, we are marking Restore tabs if Edge or the OS is restarted for any reason as Addressed! The team has done a lot of work around this experience and believe the majority of issues that were reported by you Insiders have been addressed. We do understand that sometimes bugs can happen! If you see any issues with your tabs restoring after Edge or your operating system shuts down, we encourage you to submit a bug report directly through the in-app browser feedback tool. Head to the … menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback and detail what happened as well as including diagnostics so that the team can investigate. Microsoft Edge is committed to making web browsing safer for its users. Threats to a user’s online safety grow with each passing year, as does the value of the parts of our lives we spend online. It’s more important than ever to be sensitive to good online security habits. And although it can all seem a little overwhelming, Microsoft Edge is here to help. Over the past few months, the password manager in Microsoft Edge has undergone a complete transformation. It now offers a host of new capabilities that make your browsing experience more convenient and secure, to the extent that it will make any external password manager seem unnecessary. The best part? It comes with none of the concerns of adopting a third-party application, and it’s free! Read more about the comparison between a browser-based password manager and standalone password managers here: Password Security Blog If you’re short on time, or simply prefer watching a video on what's the latest in the Microsoft Edge password manager, we’ve got you covered: Microsoft Edge | How to keep your passwords safe with Microsoft Edge - YouTube The basics The built-in Microsoft Edge password manager has helped millions of users save their passwords in Microsoft Edge, autofill them in web forms, and sync them across all their signed-in devices. Microsoft Edge autofill offers free and secure storage of users’ most sensitive data and makes it available on all your signed-in and syncing devices, no matter the platform. Another benefit of using password autofill is that it is capable of defending you from phishing sites, because the password manager will only autofill passwords on the sites to which they belong. We’ve also added more capabilities to the password manager to let you edit passwords directly in Settings, view and copy your passwords, and control when the 'password reveal' icon appears inside password fields. Using the Microsoft Edge password manager is the best way to easily manage and help protect your account information. Foundational features We’ve added a host of powerful capabilities to keep you safer and more productive online. Many of you might already be familiar with several of these (and using them every day), but here's a summary of what they do: Password Monitor: Microsoft Edge will warn you if any of your passwords match those found in a known online leak. It's NOT safe to continue using these passwords and you should update them as soon as possible! For more info, see Protect your online accounts using Password Monitor (microsoft.com). All your passwords are scanned automatically the first time you enable this feature. Thereafter, any password you use, save or update is scanned automatically. Of course – you can run a scan yourself anytime for all your saved passwords by going to edge://settings/passwords. Recent enhancements to this capability include improvements in manual scans (triggered using the 'Scan now' button in Settings), which includes a real-time progress indicator, a 'Stop scan' button, and a helpful summary at the end of the scan. Password Monitor alerts also offer new and more insightful information in every notification, to be more helpful with fewer interruptions. Password generator: Get strong and unique password suggestions whenever you need them! For more details, see Use Password Generator to create more secure passwords in Microsoft Edge. Device authentication for autofill: Add an additional layer of privacy to your saved passwords, so you can enjoy more peace of mind when your computer is unlocked or when sharing your device with others. For more info, see Additional privacy for your saved passwords (microsoft.com). Password health: Learn about which of your passwords are weak or reused, or have been found in an online leak, so you can update them right away and help protect your accounts. For more details, see Password health indicator (microsoft.com). Custom Autofill: Microsoft Edge now supports virtually any type of data. This opens up an exciting and wide range of possibilities. Go to edge://settings/personalinfo and select the ‘Add Personal Info’ button to add any information that you’d like to save to the browser so it’s readily available for autofill the next time you need it. New capabilities We’re also making investments to help reduce the time it takes to complete tedious tasks on the web, such as updating passwords and creating new online accounts. For details, see Create safer passwords in Microsoft Edgeand Using auto account creation in Microsoft Edge. (Please note that these capabilities are still new and currently available on a limited number of websites.) Going forward We’re constantly working to improve security and convenience for everyone using the Microsoft Edge password manager. We hope you continue to choose Microsoft Edge as the password manager of your choice, that you use strong and unique passwords for each of your accounts, and that you update any passwords that are found to be unhealthy. Microsoft Edge can help you complete each of these tasks quickly to help you remain safe and productive online.42KViews7likes35Comments
