Re: Does New Outlook require a separate desktop license for each email address?
As long as you add the tenant that has E1 + Apps for Enterprise first, then add the secondary tenant email address, that will work fine. That would also have been true with the classic Outlook. One of the accounts needs to provide the license for the desktop apps on Windows first, before you can add any other email address. In this case, the account that has Apps for Enterprise. Then you can add any email address. The "how" is just slightly different in new Outlook but the outcome is the same. Are you saying this configuration isn't working for you? https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/outlook-blog/how-licensing-works-for-work-and-school-accounts-in-the-new/ba-p/40473615.9KViews0likes1CommentRe: Does New Outlook require a separate desktop license for each email address?
I'll get the article corrected, thanks for pointing this out. To reiterate what the article noted, the plan is for the new Outlook and the classic Outlook support the same licensing scenarios. So with a few minor exceptions that we will fix in upcoming releases, it is working like it should. If you have a specific case that isn't working, please do share.6.1KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Does New Outlook require a separate desktop license for each email address?
Sorry for the confusion here JanetVanPelt. I will follow up with these support agents to correct this mistake. The article is correct. And since you are on a Mac, you can reference this one which says the same thing from Mac. You'll find it by clicking the Learn More link in that dialog box you shared. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/how-licensing-and-access-works-in-outlook-for-mac-13365c6c-7d94-4546-ad53-d92ee9e0ffa4 If you are still seeing that error, it is because you are on an older build of Outlook for Mac. Please update to 16.82.120.0 or greater.7.1KViews2likes3CommentsOutlook 2007 connectivity to Office 365 ending in Oct 2017
Hey all. I wanted to give you a heads up on an upcoming deprecation in Office 365. On Oct 31, 2017, RPC/HTTP will be deprecated in Exchange Online in favor of MAPI/HTTP, a modern protocol launched in May 2014. Outlook 2007 does not work with MAPI/HTTP. This means that in order to continue email connectivity, Outlook 2007 customers will need to update to a newer version of Outlook or use Outlook on the web. Additionally, Outlook 2010-2016 customers will need to ensure their version of Outlook for Windows is setup to support MAPI/HTTP. Minimum required versions are: Office 2016 plus PU.2015.12 Office 2013 SP1 plus PU.2015.12 Office 2010 SP2 plus PU.2015.12 These updates can be accessed via the KB article located here Additionally, customers may need to ensure their Outlook clients are not using a registry key to block MAPI/HTTP. Details about this registry key can be foundin this KB article on our support site The links here should have all the answers you need, but let me know if you have any other questions.2.6KViews3likes4CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Hey Daniel, You can manage Focused Inbox at the org level, and disable it for everyone. Detail can be found here:https://support.office.com/en-US/article/Configure-Focused-Inbox-for-everyone-in-your-organization-613a845c-4b71-41de-b331-acdcf5b6625d. From there, there will not be a prompt to turn it on. Individual users can still manage to turn it on in Outlook themselves, if they so choose since they like the feature.5KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Yep Gregory you should absolutely have it, based on the screenshot you showed above (and yes since you are on 1711 ModernAuth no longer matters). Just to confirm, you are connected to an Exchange Online or Outlook.com mailbox? Exchange server on-prem doesn't support it, nor does Gmail. Otherwise, I will have to direct you to support. We haven't seen it not working once the requirements are met.5.3KViews0likes1CommentRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
It is available in Office 365 Home, and has been for a long time. It is just subject to all the other requirements discussed in the original post above. Linking it here again: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Outlook/Update-on-Focused-Inbox-rollout-for-Outlook-2016-for-Windows/td-p/665945.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
It will come to Targeted in March of 2018, then Semi-Annual the next release after that. Those builds provide customer a slower update path from Monthly, which is why you haven't received the update yet. Messing with FI won't effect the feature in Outlook 2016 until you are on Monthly channel or the feature comes to Semi-Annual. It will enable/disable the feature in the web, in Outlook for Mac, etc.5.6KViews0likes6CommentsUpdate on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Edited: Nov 10, 2017 with updated information. Focused Inbox is coming to an Outlook near you! Here is an update on our status for Outlook 2016 for Windows. If you want to see our latest for other platforms, see our blog post, as these details haven’t changed. Note: we have provided admins the ability to control the rollout of Focused Inbox in their organizations. For more details, read our blog post on admin controls. Rollout status As a reminder, there is a client and service side component required for Focused Inbox to appear in Outlook. The user’s mailbox in Office 365 & Outlook.com must receive a service side update to be Focused Inbox enabled. Secondly, the user must have a build of Outlook that includes the client-side updates necessary for Focused Inbox to appear. Service side status: We deployed to 100% ofOffice 365 (Exchange Online) and Outlook.com mailboxes. This is no longer a factor in availabilty. Client side status: There are a few client side requirements: Requires build 16.0.7967.2xxx+. This build began rolling out on April 21, 2017 to the Monthly (formerly Current) Channel for Office 365 ProPlus as Version 1703. Those using a Semi-Annual (formerly Deferred) Channel build will not have access to this feature right now, as those channels offer delayed access to builds.Semi-Annual Channel will get Focused Inbox in 2018. Currently, the feature requires Office 365 modern authentication be enabled. Starting with build 16.0.8730 Version 1711, this requirement will no longer apply If you are using a build prior to 1711, modern authentication must be enabled in Exchange Online. See Enable Exchange Online for modern authentication Review Using Office 365 modern authentication with Office clients before getting started Modern authentication is automatically on for Office 2016 client apps. However, it is possible to block this using a registry key. See How modern authentication works for Office 2016 client apps to ensure the Registry key is properly set. Previous use of Clutter To ensure a good experience for those who previously used Clutter, user may get Focused Inbox rolled out in a defaulted-off state. See the chart in the “Transition from Clutter” section of our blog post.60KViews10likes186CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Hey Patrick - sorry for the confusion. It is available for all versions of Office 365 - ProPlus, Business, Home and Personal. I typically use ProPlus in this thread as this is a commercial customer forum, so that is what most people are familiar with. Just remember, as noted in the original post here, that Focused Inbox is a service-side feature in addition to a client side feature. Meaning, you need to be using an Exchange Online mailbox in order for this to work. We are in the process of enabling for Outlook.com mailboxes...those will work in16.0.8730 Version 1711.5.8KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Hey Jeff, sorry for the confusion. The note about it being only there for Monthly Channel was in the original Message Center post. We will have another post there shortly when we get rid of the modern auth requirement, then again in march when we go to Semi-Annual channel.5.2KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
I agree, and I can tell you that everyone at Microsoft also agrees. As you note however, our execution hasn't been perfect and there have been times where something missed (for a variety of reasons). We are working to ensure that doesn't happen. But we are in agreement that the Message Center is the location.5.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Sorry for the pain Scott. You didn't see a comm in the MC since this wasn't a practice or planned change, but rather a service incident. That did start on the 26th/27th last week. The fix was rolled out, it should be resolved now. I'm sorry to hear that your ambassador hasn't been too helpful. Luckily you came to the right place - I work on the product team and know what is going on. Clutter will eventually go away, but not in the short term. Likely a couple years. We will keep it going until we are fully rolled out in Outlook for Windows. We will make an announcement in the Office 365 Message Center when we have an officially published timeline. For modern auth, we are going to remove that requirement for Monthly Channel users in the next couple months. So if you aren't ready to enable Modern Auth broadly, you will still be able to get the feature here soon.5.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Hey Reef - thanks for elaborating. You are correct, we had a service incident (which you can track in the Office 365 Service Health Dashboard) where some tenants saw Clutter turned off at the end of last week. That has been fixed. I apologize about the issue. You didn't get a proactive comm on this as it wasn't intentional nor expected. Going forward, the Message Center remains the best place to stay up to date on what is happening for Focused Inbox. You do not need to follow our blogs or this community forum. As for getting Outlook 2016 working, it will work assuming you meet these requirements: using Office 365 version of Office, on Monthly Channel, up to date, connected to an Exchange Online mailbox using Modern Authentication. That last requirement is the tricky one for most, and is being removed by the end of the year.5.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Hey Scott - we didn't have anything programmatic across Office 365, but we did see reports from a few customers similar to yours. Check your Office365 Service Health Dashboard and see if you have a post from last Friday. That will have more details to share.5.2KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Ricky - I think your question is specific to IMAP, right? As we discussed earlier in the thread, it is available for Outlook for Windows (subject to the requirements that you have Modern Auth enabled, on Monthly Channel and using an Exchange Online account). For IMAP accounts, the answer is too expansive to explain in detail here. But it has to do with how Outlook for iOS/Android is architected, specifically how they cache a portion of your mailbox in our Outlook cloud service. This enables some features that aren't possible without this middle tier. That architecture isn't something we plan to enable for all of Outlook right now, as it is quite expensive from a time and server storage perspective.5.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Update on Focused Inbox rollout for Outlook 2016 for Windows users
Thanks for your thoughtful and emotionless reply :). You can turn Clutter back on using the PowerShell script I provided above. Or if you aren't familiar with that, you can use the manual steps I also provided in this conversation (copied again below). As for communications, the best place to stay up to date on Focused Inbox is to read the Office 365 Message Center. We post there each time we make a change to our service you need to be aware of. For FI, we posted when we first started rolling out to Outlook on the web, and again when we rolled out to Monthly Channel (this Feb/March). We will post again here shortly, as soon as we finalize removing the modern auth requirement explained in the initial post here. Nothing about FI has changed since March...if your customer is complaining to you, they likely in-advertently turned on Focused Inbox in the web client, not understanding their Outlook for Windows client was not yet enabled. Turning on FI turns off Clutter (since they are the same thing, implemented differently. __Manual steps__ 1. Sign in to Outlook on the web with your boss's account. Note: You need to be using the regular version of Outlook on the web, not the 'light' version. If using Light, switch to full version by navigating to Options > General > Light version and clear the Use the light version of Outlook on the web check box. Then: 2. In the upper-left corner of the page, choose App launcher > Outlook. 3. On the navigation bar, go to Settings > Mail > Layout > Focused Inbox. Choose Don’t sort messages. Click Save. 4. Return to inbox. Refresh the browser. 5. On the navigation bar, return to settings and the Clutter options should now be available. Settings > Mail > Automatic processing > Clutter. 6. Choose Separate items identified as Clutter > Save5.2KViews0likes2Comments
