Re: [UI/Feature] Please add Search Tabs Bar to Vertical tabs + Concept
What's the status of this request? I wonder every day when it'll happen while looking for a specific Tab in the vertical Tabs Bar with 30+ tabs open. As well, why "Current Tab" is still not marked in darker color and bold text in the vertical bar? In fact, its quite challenging to find a tab currently active. Also, can you place the Close Tab "x" button to the left of each tab icon on the vertical toolbar? This way it would be much easier and faster to close unneeded tabs without fully opening the vertical Tabs Bar and drugging mouse to the right edge of each tab to close.1.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: [UI/Feature] Please add Search Tabs Bar to Vertical tabs + Concept
Many folks have multiple tabs open at once in Edge. Without a Search Bar in Vertical Tabs its quite difficult to find the right Tab if there are 50+ open. Also, pls show in BOLD the tab currently active, otherwise its hard to find if only tab icons are visible.1.3KViews1like1CommentRe: OneNote extension?
Paul Bendall Could you describe Send to OneNote feature scope in IE? I use OneNote 2016 a lot, but I suspect in a way that is not possible to implement as a browser feature. For example, if I research a problem on the web and found a few useful webpages, i likely put a few own words (solutions) linked to each webpage in the "Problem" OneNote section. Its not a direct transfer, but rather a processed short solution that is left as a note. Its similar with references to apps or events, where each app has a dedicated paragraph in a certain OneNote notebook, with multiple links, and troubleshooting & hints notes from multiple sources. So for me OneNote is an intelligent notes database rather than a copy & paste notepad. How would one implement that as a browser feature?7.9KViews0likes0CommentsRe: OMG - They DO listen! Drew1903 Nice to deal with a dedicated https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/profile/7ecd8237-e25c-4751-8125-17f6998e0a7b?sort=LastReplyDate&dir=Desc&tab=Threads&filter=undefined&forum=allcategories&meta=&status=&mod=&modAge=&advFil=&postedAfter=&postedBefore=&threadType=All&page=1. You see I'm using smileys all the time now. 😊 It seems to be a Special Folder like Documents, i.e. aggregated links view. Therefore, duplicate links can be freely deleted from it. I just tried it, can be useful as Bird View apps inventory, except portable apps (not installable) not included. Still Search turns best suggestions faster, likely stats based. I usually create a new Library in Desktop view, then create various aggregated by purpose app collection folders in it, including Portable Apps folder, and move installed app shortcuts from desktop to these folders . This way the Library is accessible from Desktop Toolbar, and has auto expandable app collections, while desktop is clean. Yet nothing can replace https://voidtools.com/support/everything/, when looking for some hidden gems on one's PC. 🧐2.2KViews0likes1CommentRe: OMG - They DO listen! Pin it right on
ms4132 It is not clear to me how a vertical favorites bar opening on hover would be an improvement. Thanks for clarifying your usage case. It looks like you use just a few apps, and don't launch those from Taskbar anyway. Therefore, you have plenty of space left on Taskbar for webpage shortcuts, assuming its one row or hidden on smaller screens. However, even in this scenario it seems faster to open a shortcut from Desktop rather than Taskbar, since on Desktop each shortcut has a Name, but on Taskbar one must hover a shortcut to get its name, and they all have same icons. Hence, starting a webpage from Taskbar is slower than from Desktop. In case of using Favorites Bar pinned to Taskbar, when you hover the bar, it opens and shows all shortcuts with names, so its still faster to start a webpage this way. But I never do any of this since doing so many things on a PC at once, so using proper apps for each task becomes a habit. I don't see benefit of scattering ANY shortcuts all around PC, they must be in proper places. For webpages either in Browser Sessions, Favorites, or New Tab Speed Dial depending on use frequency. In fact I don't use app desktop shortcuts either. Most programs are started from Search, a few from Taskbar, Win Service apps from Start Menu, then I open "recent" files from the Program. 😊 However, I can see your point which covers very limited PC use scenario: a few programs and 3-4 frequent webpages. Probably either workplace (SOHO) or older age scenario.2.3KViews0likes6CommentsRe: Building a Browser - An Understanding
Drew1903 You sound very personal. The writing was strictly in a technical sphere... There are a group of things most people hold in common and they view as "Must haves" and "Keepers". Its not personal at all, just a basic absurdity issue. You claim to know and push what "most people need" instead of Edge team collecting user votes and telemetry feature use data. You even said earlier you don't use certain features while claiming later they are Must Haves. 😂 The reason I posted my note here was the forum team lately in June 2019 suddenly started answering all your historical remarks from the beginning of this forum. This raises fairness concerns, as almost half of my and other users posts addressed directly to the team were never answered by them at all. 😢 They also never answered questions posted by users here for last Reddit event, and failed to answer them during the event. The team also never commented and failed to fix high CPU and GPU load on numerous websites covering entire world regions like Europe, despite many users reported that bug seemingly caused by the same page script. I'd like to know why such discrimination occurs? In this regard, its time to talk about merits. That's why I suggested the team in my recent post to offer a feature list on this forum the users can VOTE on. Again no answer was given. Meanwhile, when someone suggests certain features are in "Massive Demand" and "Must Have" proof is usually required. So such suggestions should be treated based on user votes, and not on number of emails sent by one user to the team. I believe current situation is absurd, and I'd like the team's management input on that.1.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: OMG - They DO listen! Pin it right on
ms4132 In my view the browser is like any other application which I can pin to the taskbar, such as Word, Excel or Outlook. I've 4 browsers pinned to the Taskbar, and plenty of other frequently used apps. Adding webpage shortcuts to the Taskbar seems redundant to me, or requiring some vertical Favorites Bar (similar to Desktop Toolbar) pinned to the Taskbar with all webpage shortcuts added to it. If you add 5 webpage shortcuts to the Taskbar plus frequent app shortcuts, on a laptop screen there would be no extra space on it for currently open apps. Your use of webpage shortcuts from Taskbar rather resembles using web apps instead of browser. That's why they are also added to Start Menu. 😉 How big is your monitor? On a laptop, would you benefit from a vertical Favorites Bar added to the Taskbar, which opens on mouse hover?2.3KViews0likes9CommentsRe: Broken Websites
Elliot Kirk I have opened a bug that references this thread. Whenever you find a website that isn't working with the Insider builds, just add it to the bottom of this thread, with the build that you have tried it on and the symptoms that you are seeing. What is the bug number? I need to reference it in talks with Edge Support. Here is another example of hugely popular website Edge Chromium Dev 179 and all other versions show with indefinitely long high CPU and GPU load: https://4pda.ru/forum/index.php? The load seems to be caused by the same popular script frequently used on European sites. Chrome shows it at 0% load. I don't see any progress on this matter at all.4.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: OMG - They DO listen! Pin it right on
ms4132 My view is that pinned sites should not appear as apps or be added to the Start list. Absolute agree. I also think adding website shortcuts to Taskbar is a wrong user habit that should be discouraged by professional developers like Edge team given large variety of tasks performed by a typical PC. Desktop Taskbar is for most often used and currently open apps. Adding webpage shortcuts to it causes unneeded clutter. Browser Favs Bar is for most often opened websites. Placing their links anywhere else doesn't provide faster access. Next site also faster to open from a New Tab Dial or Favs Bar then from Start Menu or Taskbar. Would you share how many websites and for what reason do you have pinned namely to Taskbar? 😉 IMHO the devs should collect telemetry on browser feature usage stats, and actively remove seldom used features, at least from common access places to easy clutter.2.4KViews0likes11CommentsRe: Extensions - Chrome or Microsoft Store?
DaveChomas Apart of choosing the right store to install extensions from, its important to understand what value extensions carry. This forum aims to collect suggestions and bug reports to make a better browser. Naturally, installed extensions themselves represent the best suggestions supplied to devs by millions of users. By gathering telemetry on what extensions users install, how often use, and what kind of features they add to the show, the devs can then add to the browser the most popular features in a more integrated professional manner compare to 3rd party extensions. In that regard extensions represent the largest richest testing pull of new ideas, best of which the devs can capitalize on.2.8KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Building a Browser - An Understanding

If I close the browser and then reopen, I still have all typed text retained in the message box, hinting it's saved in browser cache regularly.1.1KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Not in Edge C
Drew1903 That's the problem on this forum frequent by old Edge fans some folks claim "most users opinion", even if no-one else is asking. That's why Edge team went to Reddit speaking with broader audience. For that reason I suggest to introduce "Edge feature voting portal". 😊1.6KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Not in Edge C
v-gapart It might be an option for Search Bar, but not adjacent Extensions Bar, since many folks have twice more extensions in hidden overflow area now. No need for such default feature crowding on top. Generally, many of these "obvious" transfers need user voting. Some folks claim "must have" for anything old Edge related, but support from other users may be slim to none - just look the old Edge usage stats.1.6KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Request offline download package.
HiCharlie Dev channel is updated weekly. How you're going to update it - from a standalone updater? But downloading it takes the same time as downloading the same package by web installer. It installs Edge only after its downloaded to your PC Temp folder.992Views0likes0CommentsRe: Dev channel update to 77.0.189.3 is live
josh_bodner Added a page in Settings to choose your desired New Tab Page layout. I believe this setting is NOT needed, as its available on the New Tab page. I suggest to combine On Startup and New Tab Page pages in Settings into one with 2 above subsections. In New Tab Page subsection, offer choice: - User Set Layout - Empty Tab - Open a Web Page Generally, try cutting the list of Settings pages to bare minimum, and make each such page contain many relevant settings, not just left almost empty.29KViews11likes1CommentRe: Edge as default media player
Browser plays HLS streams via default HTML5 video element. It doesn't support various media containers, and has limited codecs support. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5_video Its a bad idea to make a browser do everything for everyone. It should open web pages fast and support extensions .4.2KViews0likes0Comments
