Re: Vertical tabs should be consistent with Fitts' law
Good point. Just to clarify, this does not mean that the appearance of the floating tabs would need to change (i.e., having the tabs visually flush with the left edge of the screen, which would look bad). It just means that when your cursor is flush with the left edge, next to one of the tabs, clicking in that position should act like clicking on that tab. As has been said, the New tab button already works like this.7.4KViews3likes0CommentsRe: Introducing Workspaces in Edge | New feature
Thanks for sharing this, since it's not in my Dev channel yet. There is a "workspaces" feature in Opera and I always thought it was brilliant. I can't wait to have something similar in Edge. I mean, it's like virtual desktops for your browser!7.5KViews1like1CommentRe: Improvements to history in Microsoft Edge
William Devereux History sync offers a lot of convenience, and it seems everyone wants it, but does this mean that my browsing history will be on a Microsoft server, hypothetically accessible by Microsoft or discoverable by law enforcement? No, I'm not doing any weird stuff. This is a privacy issue, and I'm curious how Microsoft is handling it. Can someone point to a document or statement from Microsoft explaining this? Thanks!6.9KViews0likes1CommentRe: Tab behaviour enhancements
IonutBotizan Hey, I understand the frustration. I'm a mouse and keyboard man myself, and most of my weekdays are spent in front of a proper Windows workstation. However, I feel differently about alt+tab including browser tabs. I've been using this for about a week on the job and I like it. What are browser tabs if not basically program windows within a window? Each one is just another "thing" that can either be brought to the front or set in the background. If I have five tabs open, and I'm switching between two of them, alt+tab will now allow me to do this. Moreover, alt+tab now allows me to switch from another program directly to a certain browser tab, rather than just switching to the browser and *then* to the tab I'm looking for. For me, this works. However, to your point, I still hope that ctrl+tab switching will be given the option to occur in MRU order. It seems like it would be an easy toggle to have.2.5KViews1like0CommentsRe: Tab behaviour enhancements
antlane I've long clamored for ctrl+tab tab switching in MRU order. I just want to add to this thread that with the Windows 10 20H2 update, alt+tab window switching includes (optionally) the last five or last three Edge browser tabs. Rejoice, because this essentially resolves the issue! With browser tabs treated as separate windows for alt+tab purposes, I can quickly switch between two browser tabs, even with three or more tabs open. Plus, the thumbnails come up, which is an added bonus. The downside is that this functionality is baked into Windows, not into Edge per se, meaning it won't work (I presume) on Mac or Linux.2.5KViews0likes2CommentsRe: Support themes from the Chrome Web Store - Discussion
Elliot Kirk Hey, theming from the Chrome store is working fine, and I'm glad I can do that. But I think that in the future, Edge should have it's own native theming abilities. I think Microsoft could do a lot of cool themes, as you have with Outlook.com, for example.4.4KViews0likes1CommentRe: Vertical tabs preview now available in the Canary and Dev channels
William Devereux Even considering Collections, which I think is great, I believe vertical tabs is primed to be the killer feature for Edge. Super-power users who like total control are already either using Vivaldi or some obscure browser we haven't heard of. But there are lots of people who aren't exactly itching to spend hours tweaking every aspect of their browser, but nonetheless wish Chrome was a little more flexible and a little less stale. I think those people will really be attracted to Edge's vertical tabs. Personally, I can't wait for this to trickle into the stable channel so I can use it at the office.3.2KViews1like0CommentsRe: Introducing sidebar search in Microsoft Edge
mayusuf I, for one, am so happy to see this. I loved Ask Cortana in legacy Edge because it gave you quick access to some relevant search about something in a webpage without navigating away from that webpage. That is what made it great. It doesn't really matter if it's powered by Cortana or not. Can't wait to try this out in the preview builds. Thank you guys. Sidebar search is yet another standout feature for Edge.67KViews2likes1CommentRe: Top Feedback Summary for May 12
David_H_1I'm not here to get into any debates, but there's nothing wrong with proprietary software. Only care about money? A software company—or an individual independent dev—works hard to code a good program. They are entitled to copyright protection AND to the compensation they can get from selling their own creations. If they want to open source it, great. But if not, no one has any ethical grounds to complain. The mentality you've expressed just drives me nuts.5.5KViews3likes1CommentRe: Dev channel update to 84.0.502.0 is live
josh_bodner So, Josh, when will the stable version be rolled out to everybody? I know you can go install it (put it on my home computers on January 15th), but when will the old Edge start to get upgraded automatically? Should be soon, but I thought this would have happened already.14KViews2likes1CommentRe: Dev channel update to 84.0.502.0 is live
Jamie_Thelin josh_bodner Yes, not only is tab groups gone from flags, but so is one of my personal favorites: focus mode. I liked the ability to focus a tab and treat it more like its own app just for that session (without installing it as an app). These were two Chromium features that worked perfectly well in Edge when enabled. Any reason they were removed? I hope Microsoft is working on their own version of tab groups if they're not allowing the built in one.14KViews3likes0CommentsRe: Tab Preview - Discussion
Elliot Kirk I would like to see both the hover preview and the arrow to see the persistent preview of all tabs at once. I did a ctrl+f search for "hover cards" and was surprised that no one had mentioned them. But Chromium supports experimental flags already available called "Tab Hover Cards" and "Tab Hover Card Images". When both are enabled, you get the same behavior as legacy Edge where hovering your cursor over a tab causes a thumbnail preview of that webpage to appear. Try it in Chrome to see what I mean. Oddly, this flag is not available in the new Edge. It seems like Chromium contributors have done half the work for you. Just perfect and implement that feature! By the way, tab preview + tab groups + vertical tabs could be a killer combo.7KViews1like1Comment
