Re: Azure Virtual Desktop - Black Screens on logins - What we've tried so far
Still not fixed for us, going on 5 months and MS support hasn't done much but ask for logs then disappear for several days before giving us an answer they need more logs. Then we were told the February 25 Preview update would have fixes for our state repository database and should fix the issues. It didnt we have applied the new update and the issues with black screens STILL persist on Windows 11. Over 5 MONTHS and nothing new for an answer....that is unacceptable in my book, but MS support doesnt seem to care that much.2.9KViews1like0CommentsIssue with MSSENSE.EXE scanning
We have been working with Microsoft on an issue and they asked that we exclude a couple folders from scanning. We've excluded the folders and Defender MSMPENG.exe isnt scanning them anymore, but MSSENSE.EXE still is, which is ATP / Defender for Endpoint How do I stop MSSENSE.EXE from scanning those folders? Thanks,395Views0likes1CommentRe: Azure Virtual Desktop - Black Screens on logins - What we've tried so far
Yeah, there are posts in this thread that mention that KB being released by MS to fix the Windows 10 Black Screen. Check above in the pages of the thread, it comes up a couple times. Will it fix the issue? I have no idea as we are on Windows 11, but I wanted to know if anyone saw it / tried to install it to see if it helped? https://www.neowin.net/news/windows-10-22h2-release-preview-and-beta-build-190455070-kb5045594-is-now-available/1.8KViews0likes16CommentsRe: Azure Virtual Desktop - Black Screens on logins - What we've tried so far
JPlendo Windows 10 users, have any of you installed KB5045594 that was released a week or so ago? I know in previous posts in this thread some were told that KB would fix the black screen issue for Windows 10 machines. Our issue is with Windows 11, but curious if anyone in Win 10 land tried that new patch?1.8KViews0likes18CommentsAzure Virtual Desktop Host Pool(s) setup recommendations
Looking for some opinions / recommendations on reconfiguring our AVD Host Pool to try and give some better performance to users when accessing it. Currently, we have a single pool of (14) NV24s_v3 VMs running. Each VM has over 170 applications installed on it that users can access. Some of the applications require a GPU and the others do not. We allow 12 users max per VM as we found that having more than 12 can make the VMs very slow and laggy. Even with the 12 user limit, we still see issues of CPU maxing out at times depending on what applications are being accessed. We've seen a couple users on a VM cause the CPU to spike to 100%. Our disks are 1 TB Premium SSD drives on each VM. We see disk active times go into the 70-90% consistently with users on the system. Obviously, we could spin up multiple pools running the best GPU VMs and best non GPU VMs, only allow a couple users per VM and things would run great. That would be very expensive though, so isnt an option! Looking for some opinions / recommendations on how to reconfigure things to get better performance, but not break the bank doing it.2.3KViews0likes3CommentsGeneral AVD Slowness
We have a pool of NV24s_V3 VMs running. The VMs have 170+ applications on them so we have to keep the total number of users per VM down to 12. That being said, I can power on one of our VMs, let it boot up and sit for 10-15 minutes to get through all its startup processes and then login. When I login and get to my desktop, OneDrive will sync for a bit, but outside of that the CPU is under 10%, RAM is under 10% used and Disk Util is 15-20%. Even with those numbers low and me being the ONLY user on the VM, its still slow to open applications. It even takes 5-6 seconds for File Explorer to open. I see defender processes running under Disk stats, but it alone shouldnt be causing that kind of slow down, especially when the CPU / RAM / Disk stats are low. Anyone have any advice of something to look at to speed up performance? We have already excluded Defender from scanning Program Files and Program Files (x86). Just very troubling that its slow with just 1 user logging onto a 24 proc, 200+ GB RAM VM.2KViews0likes2CommentsMS Project Pro and MS Project 365
Looking to verify this. You cannot install Project Pro and Project 365 on the same VM / workstation correct? Even if using AppMasking to hide one version from some users and vice versa for the others, you cant actually install both versions on the same machine correct? We have a need to offer Project 365 to a group of users, while most of the other users still use Project Pro. Project Pro is currently installed on our pool of VMs the users access in Azure. We were hoping to use something like AppAttach for Project 365, but MS won't give a definitive answer if Office 365 / Project 365 is supported as an MSIX app or can be built as an MSIX package. We are looking for alternatives to provide both versions of the application.1.4KViews0likes1CommentAzure Virtual Desktop - Performance Testing
Two questions Does anyone know of a good tool or application that can be used to test out performance of Azure Virtual Desktop machines? I am looking at switching a pool of VMs that house 180+ applications on each VM, (many of which are GPU intensive applications) from the NVsv3 series to the newer NVads_A10 v5 series machines. In our time using the NVsv3 series, we found that for users to have a decent experience, we had to set the VMs to 2vCPU per user. So, NV24sv3 VMs would allow 12 users max on each VM. Anymore users and the CPU's pegged making the VMs unresponsive. I am not sure how this would correspond on the newer NVads VMs as they have newer processors with more threads / etc. Does anyone know of any tweaks we could use to make GPU performance better for users? With 180+ applications on each VM and users going in and out of the VMs, we see rendering times and other GPU intensive processes take considerably longer on the Virtual Machines than we would see on a desktop computer. I'm not certain if there is anything we can do in this area with our current setup, but wanted to ask. I know if we had separate pools for certain applications, we would see much better times, but that can get very expensive. Appreciate any insights or assistance.1.8KViews0likes1CommentMSIX - Office 365 Apps / Project 365
I have seen others post replies to older requests about packaging Office 365 / Project 365 as msix apps to use for AppAttach, but no answers are given except for the answers given 2-3 years ago saying it was being worked on. Can you at this time package Office 365 (Project 365 in particular in my case) as an msix app and use to AppAttach. We have a real need to do this for licensing reasons, so I would like to know if this is / is not possible yet? I attempted to package Project 365 but the end result wasnt pretty. I could have done something wrong, so I would like to know if we can / cannot do this yet Thanks941Views1like1CommentDisk Usage Issues
Having an issue with a batch of AVD VMs where on login the Disk Active Time goes to 100% and stays there, never coming back down even to the 90s. I disabled Windows Search thinking that may do it, removed the profiles, ran a DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and a sfc /scannow, rebooted. On reboot, the VM was acting better, with Active Time staying down and only going up here and there. I shut the VM down and came back to it about 30 min later, powered it back on. Logged in and the Disk Active Time is 100% again pegged. The system is back to being super sluggish. I checked Background Processes and Search is one of the Processes and the SearchApp.exe is listed as suspended. Windows Search is still disabled, but the VM is so laggy its unusable with the disk active time pegged at 100% Any ideas?1.1KViews0likes1CommentBlinking Red Screen on Login
Having an issue with some VMs in an AVD Pool where, on login (via the Windows Desktop App or via straight RDP) the login begins but instead of getting a desktop, you get either a screen that blinks red the entire time or you get to the desktop but you cant use it as the screen will blink red every 1-2 seconds. The only way I have found to fix it is by rebooting the VM. This doesnt help when the issue occurs and the VM is in production being used by many users. The issue will cause other users to not be able to login to the pool as well as the broker is trying to put them on the affected VM. Any clue as to what is happening here? I've looked in the Main Event Logs and dont see anything odd at the time of the issues. Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated.589Views0likes0CommentsAVD - CPU Usage - vCPUs
Hoping someone can explain this to me. We have NV24sv3 VMs running. We have noticed that if we get above 12 users on one of the VMs the overall CPU% goes between 70% - 90+% and I am not sure why. Our scaling script has its sessionthresholdperCPU set to 1, but it seems like sessions are taking up more CPU than they should. Also, I've noticed when logging in that all 24 logical processors on the VM will go up to 70+% while the login finishes and OneDrive loads. Why would all 24 be doing that for my login? Maybe I am misunderstanding sometthing, but it seems like sessions should be utilizing one of those logical processors correct? Any help is greatly appreciated.1.2KViews0likes0CommentsAVD Pools using AMD CPU/GPU vs. NVIDIA-Intel CPU/.GPU
Has anyone setup / run any AVD Host Pools using AMD GPU (and AMD CPU)? NVas V4 series? How was the experience for users compared to the NVv3 NVIDIA / Intel VMs? Could you run 1 user per vCPU on a Host with no issues? How was GPU performance? I know the NV V4 series VMs use partial GPUs (except the NV32as V4 which uses a whole). For Applications that rely on GPU performance how did the AMD GPUs perform vs. NVDIA. Did you see any issues using the partial GPUs? Was CPU performance good vs, Intel CPUs?1.6KViews0likes1CommentAccessing AVD Pools via Thin Client / Thin OS Options
Looking for some recommendations on hardware / Thin Client running a Thin OS to be used to access Azure Virtual Desktop Virtual Machine Pools from classrooms with multiple monitors I've looked at Chromebooks, but being a laptop design, wouldnt be the best fit to have to mount under desks and run wires to monitors / keyboard / etc. I also saw ChromeBoxes, but havent actually used / worked with one. Also looked at and have experience with Intel NUCs running Stratodesk Thin OS. Looking for any other recommendations... Appreciate any assistance.2.4KViews0likes1CommentAzure AD Joined via PowerShell - Possible?

Is there anything within Azure Virtual Desktop processes that are vulnerable to the Log4j Apache / java vulnerability? With AVD being in the cloud and maintained by Microsoft, are there any updates that need made on customer side? The VMs we have in AVD are all in private IP space.1.3KViews0likes1CommentMSIX AppAttach application on multiple AVD pools
