Re: Data validation range based on another cell contents
its not just me then... if this file is to be used by others, I really need to wait until ALL are updated to that vs. Appreciate the insight! Not what I was expecting nor what I like, but it is what it is and guess I am at the mercy of whatever dept controls the updates, etc. Sure it is a lovely dept wrapped in red tape41KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Data validation range based on another cell contents
So, I have taken out the blanks in the tables so that is no longer an issue, but any reason why the "autocomplete" is not working? Be great if they could start to type and it would give suggestions to help speed up the process.42KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Data validation range based on another cell contents
apologies for delay - 'life'.... we are using office 365 and I have blanks in the table because I am trying to allow this thing to grow as we need it and I know each site will have areas added and easier for someone to pick a blank, type in a new option than try to redo lists, etc. But if it is going to cause massive issues, then I will eliminate the blanks and my team will just need to monitor.42KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Data validation range based on another cell contents
Thank you! Works rather well. Only one item I am trying to understand... I needed to make the list include a few 'blanks' so that we can add on the second drop down and now, after selecting the "site", when going to the next one, sometime when I click on the pull down, it will start by showing the first in the list and sometimes it starts with the blanks which requires me to scroll to the top. The "Ignore" blanks is selected. also - any reason the auto complete is not working? I.E. on the Using Ohio instead of OH as the actual name.42KViews0likes7CommentsRe: Data validation range based on another cell contents
HansVogelaar Question.. I have a similar issue. in one cell the user is going to select a "location" and based on that location, I need the validation to move from one set of options to the next... I.E. if C2 = "OH", then use the list between D1:D20, if C2="TN" then use the list between E1:E50, if C2="NC", then use the list between F1:F15, if C2="KY" then use the list between G1:G6. Each location has a specific areas that can be chosen from and based on what area they are in, want to limit the validation to their specific choices. Is this possible?49KViews0likes9CommentsPowerPoint and SharePoint
When opening PowerPoint from SharePoint, all works great. It asks if you want to check out (if that is your permissions) or just to read only. However, if you do check it out, when saving / closing there is no prompt to check back into SharePoint like excel. Is this normal or is there something I am missing? I am having problems with people forgetting to check PowerPoint files in as they are so use to how excel prompts for a check in and they figure it does an auto check in.782Views0likes0CommentsRe: I can't discard changes to see the current version of the file
Instead of opening a new conversation, since my issue is the same, thought I would extend... is there anyway to auto clear the OfficeFileCache? Right now, I have the folder saved as a shortcut on my desktop and go in and delete every so often. Since I work on several sites loading / changing files, etc, not that unexpected that I need to do this, especially since some of the file names are the same but are on different sites. However, now starting to have normal users report issues that are cleared up by clearing this folder. Is this something that perhaps IT needs to build into the startup script? Or is there some setting in SharePoint that can used?61KViews0likes3CommentsExcel Check in
The library requires files to be checked in/out. When files open, in excel, it ask if the user wants to check the file out (or notifies them that the file is already checked out). All that works fine. The problem is that SOMETIMES, when closing the file, excel is NOT asking the user if they want to check the file in or save. The file simply closes and when someone else tries to open the file it says it is checked out and if the original user opens it, they can get errors when trying to save. Has anyone experienced this issue and if so any way to ensure when a file closes it prompts the user to check the file back in? Even if it simply does not save, but prompts to check back in, at least we could avoid record lock.845Views0likes0CommentsPowerPoint Check In
Looked on line but could not find an answer to this and hoping someone here can help. We currently have "check in / out" enabled and working decently. When someone (who has proper permissions) opens a PowerPoint it gives them the note that the file must be checked out to change. But when saving and closing, unlike excel, there is no msg box asking if they want to check in and give version notes. Is this this not a possibility in PowerPoint? Do you need to manually check in from the SharePoint site?1.4KViews0likes0CommentsRe: owners can only open files in read only
unfortunately seems this is a restriction inside SharePoint and syncing. See some post on possible enhancements to SharePoint to fix, but nothing for sure. Anyone have any ideas? Right now I have unsynced the team and that means they need to download files to be able to upload them into our ERP for backup. Adds an extra step and time that we really do not have820Views0likes0Commentsowners can only open files in read only
Right now, I have several people that when they try to open files they are opening in read only. The msg says there is some issue with communicating with the server. However, I am able to go in and open the file with no issues. I have tried making everyone owners but that does not resolve the issue. we are on the verge of scrapping hundreds of hours of work on the SharePoint site and need helpDelete file and reload - when opening in excel - refresh recommended - newer version
Deleted multiple excel files from a SharePoint site (issues found with excel files). The files were fixed and new ones loaded (Yes, may have been done differently, but what is done is done). The problem now is that when opening the files (which have the same name as the original files), sometimes users get a "Refresh Recommended" notice and the old file actually appears. The files were deleted on SharePoint and the recycle bin emptied. We have emptied browser cache and done all we can think of but it is still happening. Any ideas?2KViews0likes0CommentsScreen Refresh
Seems one of the users biggest issues is to "Refresh" their screen when in SharePoint. If User A and B enter the site at the same time and User A opens File 1, works in the file and saves / checks in the file, but user B does not "refresh" their screen before clicking on the file, User B typically runs into some type of file issue, from opening errors to saving errors. However if the same situation occurs but before opening the file, user B "refreshes" their screen, the system works without any hiccups. Is there away to build into the SharePoint site some type of auto refresh so that the pages will refresh every X min or sec or if hours if I can use decimals.... This way we could potentially limit the number of these errors. Not sure if I can get IT to agree to do some mass download of an add in like the auto refresh that I find when searching the net on suggestions, so looking to see if there is something that can be done in SharePoint specifically.1.3KViews1like1CommentCreate a copy of a file by clicking a button
This may or may not be possible but thought I would try asking.... Library: New Business Folder: Template File: Template.xls What we would like to do on the home page is create a button that when clicked would automatically create a copy of the template.xls file directly under the library "New Business". That way the user can create a copy of the file w/o having to know how to go in and copy or move, etc. They could then change the name of "copy of" or template.xls to the correct name and go in and work on the file. Is this possible?Re: How to disconnect MS-Teams team from their respective SharePoint site
I needed to delete a folder in SharePoint and it told me to delete from teams. But to do so, was advised the only way was to delete the "team". Unfortunately, it also deleted the site and we have lost months of data. Currently have my fingers crossed that IT can restore the site which means I will likely have the folder back and back to square one, but at least the data will be there... if they can restore...52KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Restrict Owners
Yeah... the problem is our IT admin not local within the company most of the SharePoint talent is not IT (aka the admin). Therefore thinking passwords on specific files may be the best and that is if they feel it is absolutely necessary and to think of it.... most of them may already have passwords as IT has access to the servers now, so what is stopping them from going in? Trust and Professionalism! Greatly appreciate the bounce of ideas tho! Really did make me stop and think!10KViews1like1CommentRe: Restrict Owners
Tried that, unfortunately as you can see on your list the "permissions owners" is listed twice. If I go in, stop inheriting permissions and remove user permissions from owners for a library then go back to manager access.... owners is still listed, just listed once. Therefore I am still able to get into the folders as the owner. It also got me thinking... what if something was to go wrong in general in the library? If I had to help fix, how would I do it if I had no access to the folder? Almost like we need to go the way of passwords on files. But i am open to suggestions.11KViews0likes3CommentsRestrict Owners
Not even sure if this is possible, but is there a way to remove site owners permissions from a certain library or even just a folder under a library? We are moving multiple files and departments to SharePoint and foresee an issue when it comes to HR and potentially Engineering when it comes to having someone in Finance (aka me as the owner) having the ability to get into files. Right now I have a potential of 2 work arounds... 1 - Saw something about creating a completely new site for high sensitive info and just put a link to that site on this site. The problem is that then someone would need to manage those site and right now there are few (aka 2 here) that know anything about SharePoint and neither are in the "sensitive" areas. 2 - Ask the departments to password protect any files that are sensitive. Only problem here is that, and cannot believe I am saying this, people don't remember passwords or they write passwords on sticky notes and basically void the use.. So really hoping there is a way to do the security without a work around... fingers crossed someone here has any ideas... Thanks for any help!Solved11KViews0likes5Comments
