Local printers & universal printer connector & server delegation

Steel Contributor

Hi everyone,

we have 2 people managing "Universal Print" in our company. We installed the connector on one server and you have to add the printers, remove old etc.

Is there any way to do JIT rights with no 3rd party tools? As this is a task that happens one time every 3 months i do not want to give them admin rights to a server. Following the least privilege principle

Windows Admin Center maybe? What is your solution on this?

Best regards

Stephan

@StephanGee Universal Print has a feature called Delegated Administration which may do some of what you're asking for. By configuring and assigning Administrative Units you can:

  • Allow an admin to manage printers by using a specific connector
  • Allow an admin to manage printers in a specific location
  • Provide a static list of printers that an admin can manage

If you want to manage access to the server where you're hosting the connector, you'll need to configure that separately.

Thanks for your response.
"If you want to manage access to the server where you're hosting the connector, you'll need to configure that separately." That is the part that i meant - are there any ways to perform that without "admin rights" on that server? Maybe "just" Remote Desktop Users and some tweaks :)
