Badge Release

Brass Contributor

Hi, we are an MSP working with many clients. We have a client looking to purchase a new MFP for a new office, and we thought this would be a good opportunity to test out Universal Print instead of Papercut.

Are there any printers that support a badge secure release of documents queued by Univeral Print? I can't seem to find a straight answer on this topic, and the Universal Print documentation has no mention of badge readers.

Any direction would be appreciated.

Currently in Universal Print you have the adjacent options "PIN Release" and "Secure release with QR code".

For printers supporting the "PIN Release" option you can check out the below table:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/universal-print/fundamentals/universal-print-partner-integrations#...

"Secure release with QR code" uses a phone and a QR code for release at the printer which would be the most similar to badge release.

For Badge release solutions however you would have to check out the Partner integrations, and since you are already using papercut might I suggest that you check out this section:

RFID badges support is at the moment on status "Planned". 2023-09-11 Jimmy Wu from Microsoft said "We are working with partners to enable RFID/badge swap support. At this time, we don't have anything we can share.":

Thank you, Andreas, this is very helpful.
