Announcing the Winners of the Canadian Finals of Imagine Cup 2018!

The Canadian Finals of Imagine Cup was hosted in Vancouver on Saturday May 26 th . The live pitch competition featured a highly competitive field of 6 Canadian Finalists , each delivering an entertaining business pitch and technical demo of their innovative application. Unfortunately, only 3 of the Canadian Finalists could be selected by our panel of expert judges to move on and represent Canada at the Global Finals of Imagine Cup 2018 hosted in Redmond on July 23-25.

At the Global Finals of Imagine Cup 2018, these 3 teams will represent Canada and compete for a chance to take home up to $100,000 USD in cash prizes, Microsoft Azure grants, and a mentorship session with Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft.


1st Place: smartARM
University of Ontario Institute of Technology
University of Toronto


smartARM (Created by Hamayal and Samin) is a 3D printed prosthetic hand for amputees. It makes use of computer vision to identify objects and trigger the most appropriate grip.


2nd Place: Muma, Music Matching AI
University of Toronto


Muma (Created by Irene, Shunzhe, and YiMing) is a music matching service that identifies music usage online to capture more revenue for its customers. Muma aims to improve the music industry for music makers and music listeners alike.


3rd Place: Hachy
University of Waterloo


Hachy (Created by Eugene) is an IoT and Machine Learning solution for tracking egg development. Hachy enables easy and efficient smart egg candling (studying the growth of an embryo via a bright light) for farmers and consumers.

Judging Panel
A panel of 5 distinguished judges observed each team’s business pitch and technology demo and selected the Canadian winners based on the concept, technology, innovation, and feasibility of their project.
