/Teams/ and /Sites/ site address options not available for Team sites but is for Communication sites

Brass Contributor

Hi

I was wondering when creating Team Sites in Sharepoint Online you do not get the option to change the address path to /Teams/ but for communication sites you can choose between /Teams/ and /Sites/

Will this option be added in the future?

Hi Peter,

Changing Manged Path are currently not available online. You can't create managed paths for Office 365, it's definitely not a PowerShell cmdlet (check the list here: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/fp161364.aspx#VerbOrder).

I don't know if they will ever add that to the Team site creation or not (it would be nice if they did), but alternatively you can change the default managed path from /sites to /teams through the SharePoint Admin Center. If you make the change there, then both Team and Communication site will be created at /teams by default. However, as you have stated, with the Communication sites you will still have the option to change them to /sites during creation if needed.

Also, you could check out the Microsoft 365 Roadmap to see if they are possibly working on this feature. Roadmap: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=

Thanks I just found this option and enabled it.
For me it makes more sense to have /Teams/ for team sites as default or the have the option and have /Sites/ for communication Sites.

Thanks for you help
