We're experiencing an interesting circumstance with SharePoint Online. We have a few password protected Excel and Word files in a shared document library. This library has major & minor versioning turned on and a Power Automate workflow for document approvals.
When these password protected files are opened in Word or Excel, we know our users cannot make any changes, but they can somehow still save the file — which marks a minor change and switches the document approval status in SharePoint back to Draft from Approved... all without any actual change happening.
I don't believe this is something we can control, but I am curious if anybody else knows different.
Is there a way to make sure protected files cannot be changed unless they are unlocked?
