List Date Picker control changes when using Custom Form

I've run into an issue with the date picker control on multiple SharePoint Online lists. 

 

On initial list creation, the date picker control for both the default edit form and inline editing is the modern control as shown below. This is the desired and expected behavior.

As soon as I change the list to use a custom (PowerApps) form, it reverts to what looks like the classic SharePoint date picker control that's been around for ages.

Other than being somewhat clunky, when selecting the field, it also doesn't automatically pop-up the calendar like the modern control does, forcing the user to click the calendar icon to show it which is far from ideal.

Is there any way to get the modern date picker back when using a custom form? I'm trying to make a consistent experience for our users across quite a few different lists, but little things like this make it quite difficult.
