Latest thinking displaying SharePoint version number in a Word document
This seems to very unreliable or unpredictable. [Many years ago, I think it used to work fine - I sued it]. There are various incantations out there involving the using {Version} or {_UIVersionString} in Information management policy settings (having enabled) it and using label from Quickparts. Some say you need to make a content type for the library, other don't think this is necessary. Some report that the whole feature is deprecated. So can it be done in the lates version of everything? (Please don't link me back to one of the many old articles describing a method unless you are using it an up to date environment and it works) At the moment I have some documents that sometimes work and sometimes don't with docuemtns in the same library using the same template behing differently - a randomness I hate - I cant even build a reliable truth table for what makes it work or not: it's like a table lamp with a loose flex, flickering on and off. I keep think there must be an easier way to do this - surely we can't be the only orgnaisation who wants the same version number as the user sees in SharePoint as a field in the footer or the Word document? Why doe sversion (the column that appears when you enable version control) simply not appear as a document property or a field in Word? (Is there a way to add it without lables? Although the option to control the document information panel in word seems to have gone.)Linking a specific OneNote page to a Sharepoint List
Hello, I am trying to link a OneNote page in a Sharepoint list via the Hyperlink field. So basically users would copy the link to the OneNote (shared) page in the URL field of Sharepoint. However, I keep getting an error when I save the list with the page URL in (it works well before saving!). I can link the general notebook, but not a specific page (which is what I am interested in). I read it might be linked to a limitation in the number of characters that Sharepoint accepts as URL? Can somebody help me on this? Many thanks! Kind regards Valeria
Issue where SharePoint users see an old unsynchronised Word file
The issue is that users open a Word document from a shared library into the desktop app, only to find that: There's no Autosave feature enabled in the top-right. The document version label we add on the frontsheet shows a very old minor version. I believe also that the file is read-only, and the only option they see is to save a local copy and upload it back to the library; which is not good practice since it's an old version. They report that the issue is resolved after exiting OneDrive, and deleting a Local cache folder. Has anyone experienced this issue and know what to try?My Content Type instances have duplicate Document IDs (dlcdocid).
Hi, I have a Documents library with Content Types enabled, and with the Document ID service enabled. However new documents do not have a unique ID, but all get assigned the same ID as the content type template. The setup I enabled Document ID service via the Site Collection Features: https://<domain>.sharepoint.com/sites/<sitename>/_layouts/15/ManageFeatures.aspx?Scope=Site I enabled and configured content types. I created a Word template in the SharePoint library, and used Insert > Quick Parts > Document Property to create form fields sync'd with the Library/content type columns (Description, Project, Status). I downloaded the Word template from the same library into my OneDrive sync'd location, and uploaded it to the site collection's Content Types https://<domain>.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/online/AdminHome.aspx?modern=true#/contentTypes and sync'd to the site content types. I created documents in the library using the "New" menu. Later I ask the user or reviewer to update the document frontsheet with the dlcdocid (Insert > Quick Parts > Document ID value, or Insert > Quick Parts > Field... > DocProperty > _dlc_DocId) as well as the SharePoint Version using the policy label method (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5146555/sharepoint-label-to-embed-version-in-word-doc-havi) via Insert > Quick Parts > Document Property > Label. The Problem In the Documents library, new Word files are being re-assigned the original dlcdocid of the template (say DOCUMENT-0123456789-5). Now the "unique" URL shows me a list of multiple files all with DOCUMENT-0123456789-5. This is a read-only field so I cannot edit or delete the IDs. I want to have a Content Type template, with the frontsheet/header/footer fields sync'd with the Library columns, but I also want each document to have a unique ID and version. Help requested Is there a way to fix the template to clear the template ID, and to avoid this issue on future templates? How should I replace the template? Is uploading Template copies to the Content Type bad? Should I instead point to the file URL? Does it matter where the Template file is stored? Are there any ways to reset the ID of the few existing documents with the duplicate value?
Best Practice guide for stretched HA farm?
Hi, Im planning a SharePoint Subscription farm over 2 data centers. Should be pretty simple. Farm will consist of: dc 1: 1 spfe, 1 spapp, 1 sql dc 2: 1 spfe, 1 spapp, 1 sql Sql servers will be AlwaysOn. Im not sure how to set up the sp servers. Is there a preferred way to set it up, with how to? Our domains have 10gb connections so should be more than sufficient for stretched and HA. Can CA site be hosted from multiple servers? How are IPs/DNS/certs handled? What else do I need to get my head around? Thanks. Swan
Creating a slide show from a list webpart- Brainstorming
I have a SP list that i want to do a slideshow onto a page. It's basically to showcase achievements with a column (yes/no) to filter. it's all text, no pictures, just to displaying what happened and want it to be automatic to scroll through. tried hero webpart, and that did not work. Used list webpart which of course just shows the whole list. Though about making an power app, but i couldn't figure out how it would be able to showcase each item on the list automatically with me creating a new screen every time one is submitted. Any suggestions will be useful. ty
SharePoint List - item visible but clicking on it does not open it in popup (similar to edit screen)
-this is a sharepoint online site (which gets created when we make ms teams channel) -there is mutliple list and libraries inside this sharepoint site -there is a list lets call that 'abc' list - it has approx 15 -20 columns- text, number, url, lookup , (nothing fancy, content types not there, just imagine a business user setup this list to put in some process relatged info..they are NOT sp advanced user ) -there are around 15 list items (yes very less items!) -approx 3-4 days ago he created those items in the list and when he click on the item (by clicking on title) it used to open in the default sharepoint pop up - this list has not more than 30 users with some has full control, some has read, some has edit-- mostly these permission are coming from sharpoint inherited groups , and list is still inheriting permission (active useres who contribute and view content in this list are just 3-4 people) -now the PROBLEM is when he click on the title to view items , nothing happens , no popup opens ---fixes we tried-- restart laptop -swithch browsers (tried on chrome and edge) currently using edge. removed this user from sharepoint site (he was residing in multiple groups), we removed him from every grp and deleted few grps as well now when we 'check' in the sharepoint permission-> it showed this user has 'none' permission then we granted him 'full control' again he was able to see items but cannot 'open' item, or 'add' is also not working for him he is however able to do 'quick edit' and enter new values we did hard refresh etc. we checked the default forms in list settings> form settings- it is default to sharepoint form (NOT power apps) we did other due deligence, but nothing seems to work for handful of people, however for other set of people the list is working as expected
