Event based retention is now generally available to help organizations manage retention of content based on a certain event trigger. Whether an employee departure, or the close of a project, you can now establish certain event triggers and create retention or deletion policies associated to those events.

Watch the Mechanics video to learn more about how this will work and learn more about this capability here.

As organizations adopt modern ways of working, like the chat based workspace Microsoft Teams, we are excited to announce that Microsoft Teams chats and team channels are now rolling out to be included in the Data Governance features of the Security & Compliance center. Set retention policies to Teams content, similar to the way that you have the option to choose locations across Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Groups today. This addition will expand your ability to meet retention and regulatory requirements with confidence across Office 365 applications.

A core component of protecting content is deleting it when it has reached the end of its useful life. As email ends its useful life, enabling the ability to manually dispose of that email enables peace of mind and smoother processing. You will be able to start to test manual email disposition features in preview starting later this month. Learn more about this update here.

Finally, we are also announcing that our new Labels Explorer dashboard is now available in preview. You will be able to harness the labels widgets and dashboard to gain insight into labels usage in your organization.

@Nick Robinson just to make sure I understand correctly, you are announcing disposition for Exchange items, right? The documentation you linked to still mentions this: "A disposition review can't include content in Exchange Online, Skype, public folders, or mailboxes for Office 365 groups". Perhaps you should update that one to at least mention the coming preview?

Also, none of this is on the UPP? :(

Hey @Vasil Michev thanks for the note. We are updating the documentation on our side to more accurate.

The preview pieces here are starting to roll out to UPP tenants now and will be complete within a couple weeks.

Awesome, thanks :)

Hi Nick,

After going through video it's been mentioned that we need to have E5 license to have Label Explorer and recently added File plan builder.

Can we have Compliance Administrator E5 license and rest of the users as E3 so that Compliance administrator can utilize newly added features for Label explorer & File plan builder?

Thank you.

Microsoft

Hi Shiva - the licensing is based on a per user model, so if the user's content is subject to an event based retention policy, they should have E5 or the advanced compliance add-on.

Thank you Nick for your reply. Just wanted to give some broad description of my scenario.

1. Compliance Administrator(CAuser) who will have E5 license and create Labels/retention policy/events etc in Security &compliance site and choose locations to publish those policies to SharePoint site (S1).

2. Normal SharePoint user (E3) license who will be contributing to S1 site along with many other users to S1.

Does Compliance Administrator(CAuser) has E5 license will he be able to see label explorer & File plan manager?

Hi @Nick Robinson, you state that the licensing is based on a per user model (for Disposition), so if the user's content is subject to an event based retention policy, they should have E5 or the advanced compliance add-on.

Is there documentation in the Microsoft Volume Licensing Agreement regarding needing an E5 license for all users of the Disposition feature?

Thank you,

Copper Contributor

Good!!
