Our team needs a place to centrally manage report deadlines that we have to submit to external funders. I was originally thinking just a shared calendar. But, that only makes sure we know when the report is due. Not necessarily keep track of whether and when it was actually submitted. We don't have the expertise to build anything complicated, but is there a better approach that would not only give us a calendar of reports and their deadlines, but also let us check off that they were submitted?

Sounds like this would be a good use for Planner.
It won't give you a calendar, but if you set the due date of each thing you'll see Number 1 is due in 7 days, number 2 is due in 28 days etc.
You can also set tasks for each and assign to people, to track how many % completed a thing is. I'd make one of those task the actual submission, so that can be ticked off and the thing now at 100% when it's all done and sent.

Thanks Sonia. I'm looking into this. I like it for managing the status of whether reports are being worked on/complete and who is responsible. I think this can work well for the staff doing the actual work. But, we also have some management who are pretty stuck in Outlook, and want their "comfortable" calendar view in Outlook. Not sure if there is some way to get a hybrid of both short of simply entering information in both places. Thanks!
