"Our America: In the Black" shows the future of financial empowerment for Black communities.
In honor of Financial Literacy Month in April, we are proud to highlight the launch of the documentary, “Our America: In the Black” in partnership with ABC Owned Television Stations. This compelling film is a deep dive into financial health, literacy, and empowerment within the Black community. Spearheaded by Microsoft Philanthropies Corporate Affairs Specialist Darrell Booker, the documentary embarks on a national journey to shed light on the importance of financial literacy and the role technology can play in bridging the wealth gap.
The documentary showcases the stories of individuals at different stages of their financial journey, such as a young woman in foster care who is starting her journey to becoming a mechanical engineer at Howard University. On a broader scale, nonprofits who are working at scale to educate and empower financial literacy and tools for black communities share their work: The nonprofit, RISE is working towards eliminating racial discrimination in sports, and the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs (RICE) is piloting strategies for economic racial equity.
“Our America: In the Black” highlights the movement towards economic empowerment and generational wealth creation in historically underserved communities.
